The Pilgrim of Hate

Another fantastic story from Ellis Peters. Brother Cadfael really shines in this one. Patrick Tull is by far the best narrator of this series, and his voice makes Brother Cadfael come to life.

Patrick Tull adds greatly to this series.

I've listened to all of the Patrick O'Brian series, Sharpe series, and now most of the Brother Cadfael novels. In each of these series Patrick Tull does an amazing job with the narration. His voice and skill as a reader adds tremendously to my experience as a listener. When you have a choice, select the edition with Tull as the narrator. Ellis Peters (Edith Pargeter) has done a wonderful job with this series. From the first, the characters have grown and become more fully developed. It is a wonderful way to enjoy a first class murder mystery and feel you're in the 12th century as well.

Another Nice Addition to the Brother Cadfael Saga

Any additional comments?

As all the Brother Cadfael books, this one follows a formula, i.e., a murder by person unknown, Brother Cadfael's clever unraveling of the mystery, and young love blossoming in the background. However, the twists and turns can still surprise (and delight!) even the expereinced reader, who has been through a number of the chronicles.

Fantastic story

It's nice to delve back sometimes and imagine life to have such idealistic people in it. Many people are far to good in it and honorable, but its a story after all and stories with honorable people are inspiring.

Audible Version Doesn't Work with Kindle Version!

The reason for my giving a low rating to this book is because this is the 5th Audible book in this wonderful series where the Audible doesn't match with the Kindle written version. I couldn't read along as I like on my Kindle Fire. The recording would stop everytime I attempted to read.. So now I will check my library or do without the Audible. The reader was excellent; I just couldn't follow along.

great listen

If you could sum up The Pilgrim of Hate in three words, what would they be?

Complex; Characters. Compelling

Who was your favorite character and why?

As usual, Brother Cadfael, because he is a wise and practical as well as a devout person who cares about people and justice and is great at solving problems that perplex others.

What about Patrick Tull’s performance did you like?

The late Patrick Tull provided top notch narration of thie Brother Cadfael series. I have listened to other narrators (by mistake) and find them not nearly so effective as Tull in the nuances of characterization in the narration.

Any additional comments?

I love all the Brother Cadfael series particularly the characters in them. They seem natural and real for their time and place. And the settings are wonderful. Actually Shrewsbury in the 12th Century is engraved in my mind through these stories.
