About this listen
Editorial reviews
In Oscar Wilde's only novel, Dorian Gray elects for a beautiful portrait of him to age rather than he, so that Dorian may pursue a life of debauchery without consequence. Both ornate and arrogant, Grenville Peter Mills' performance perfectly suits this story. He uses his full vocal range to capture the stylized language and humor of the work. His voice is at once admiring and judgmental, much like Dorian's world. With skilled pacing, Mills builds suspense right up to the gothic final twist. With Wilde and Mills combining forces, this notorious hedonistic story is unstoppable entertainment.

Wonderful rendition
The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favorite books so I made sure I listened to the samples of all the
unabridged versions before deciding.
I chose this one and am glad I did. The reading is wonderful as befits a timeless masterpiece like this. Five stars!

Thoroughly rewarding
Perfect. The narration gains dramatic effect as the story and characters develop. A classic novel, peppered with the wit of a genius. The narrator clearly revelled in the delicious and wicked brilliance of Oscar Wilde's social observations and dazzling repartee. To quote from the master: 'I could deny myself the pleasure of talking, but not to others the pleasure of listening'
Too often the narration of Dorian Gray misses the wonderful lethargic sensuality of Lord Henry Wotton, a self-proclaimed hedonist. Here his character is captured perfectly.
