Publisher's summary

Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload - and the secrets of her own dark past.

In The Perfect Wife, criminal profiler in training Jessie Hunt is sure she's finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle's promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her master's degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.

But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors - and their au pairs - all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal - or safe.

As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her - including her own sanity. Has she truly uncovered a disturbing conspiracy buried within a sunny, wealthy Southern California beach town? Does the mass murderer she's studying really somehow know the origin of her private nightmares?

Or has her tortured past finally come back to claim her?

A fast-paced psychological suspense thriller with unforgettable characters and heart-pounding suspense, The Perfect Wife is audiobook one in a riveting new series that will leave you listening late into the night.

great!

This was a really different take on a genre that seems to have been done a thousand times. It has lots of different twists and "the husband " part is not actually the most interesting part of the story. Cant wait for the next one!

Very Slow Start, Excellent Wind Up

First encounter with either the author or the narrator. I was almost 1/2 way through the book when it finally became interesting. After that it progressed nicely. The book concludes quite well. Very fulfilling.

Personally, I did not like this narrator. Which kinda caused me to not really like the main character. Which made the beginning 1/2 laboriously long.

The sample narration is a good sample as to the sound of the narrator’s voice, but it is less “choppy” than some segments of the reading. The narrator, also, exhibits little emotion or empathy in her voice. On a plus side, she does speak loud and clearly, which is most important when selecting a book.

As far as I recall, there was little or no swearing. The topic of sex does come up in an acceptable way, and there is nothing graphic in that area.

Without a plethora of 5 star reviews, I doubt I would purchase a 2nd book by either this author or narrator.

A slow starting Psychological Thriller

The beginning is very slow and reminded me of The Stepford Wives. It made woman out to be Stupid, with Abolutely No Pride in themselves. About half-way through the storyline gets better and moves faster. The storyline is interesting but some characters actions unbelievable. You have an older student, Jessica Hunt who is a student who has finished her thesis and is going to start her practicum, she is married and wanting to have a baby. Jessica had a horrific childhood memory of being kidnapped and a lot of happenings during that time. She is going to do her practicum at a Criminally Insane Unit. So many things happening; open marriages, a cheating husband, cocaine, abuse, miscarriage, serial killers and sex (but not raw/frank sex). You have many twists and turns along the way. There is a lot of suspense. The ending caught me off guard so don't read it first as it will rune the whole book. This is an average read but not one to run out and buy.

Need new narrator

The narration was robotic and sounded like it was her first narration job. The male voices sounded extremely contrived and she ended almost every sentence with an upward intonation as if every sentence was a surprise or a question.

The plot was decent, and I liked the twists and turns, but basically felt like copies of previously done plot lines.

Good story, bad narration.

The content was good, but I was so annoyed with the narrator that I almost didn't finish. one of those "breathy" readings that almost sound like every line is a question.
