About this listen

A thief's good deeds are never done.

Loch and her crew are determined to stop the ancients from returning to reclaim the world they once ruled, but the kidnapping of a friend throws their plans awry. When a desperate rescue turns into a shocking reunion, the ancients return and seize power. Determined to stop them, Loch and the group look for a way to close the gate to the ancients' world, but this time, they find themselves up against an enemy that has insinuated itself into the highest ranks of the Republic. Cruel, cunning, and connected, the ancients target the crew's families and histories, threatening to tear friendships apart.

If that weren't bad enough, Loch must deal with her treacherous assassin sister, her turncoat ancient friend, and a daemon who has sworn to hunt her to the ends of the earth. In order to save the Republic and pull off her largest con ever, Loch will need her friends...and maybe her enemies too.

If the first book was Ocean's eleven,, this book is Leverage. They take your back and forth to show you how it was done. We get more of the characters background in this story. We have been so busy running from danger a nd savings the world, there hasn't been much opportunity for character development. Now, I feel like I am getting to know them and the series is done. The narrator continues her excellent performance with name pronunciation and accents that only improve the story. I am glad I heard these stories as audio books. I don't think I would have done as well reading them myself.

more. i want more.

I really enjoyed the whole series and didn't want to put it down. All three books had excellent plots with delightful and interesting characters. I especially liked the many twists and turns so that the outcomes were not predictable.

Awesome series

Just a fun story with wonderful characters and an amazing lead! It’s so hard to find excellent fantasy with a woman of color as a well-written lead, and with very few iffy incidents involving sexism or homophobia. This book fit the bill and was a great adventure story!

Fun!

First off, if you haven't read the previous two books, start there. This one is a proper sequel and as such won't make much sense unless you've read the other books in the trilogy.

This is a hard book to listen to because there is so much going on. I found myself constantly rewinding because I had missed something small. The story is very well done, and ties up loose ends nicely. Weekes keeps the spirit of the series while giving a satisfying conclusion that leaves you on tenterhooks throughout.

Excellent Fantasy in its own category
