Acerca de esta escucha

A Warhammer Horror novel.

Ashielle Matkosen, new Lord Governor of Ceocan, discovers a horrific secret in a vault beneath her father’s palace - a blasphemous living weapon. Forming an ancient pact with it may avenge her father’s death - but at the cost of her soul.

Listen to it because:

Deals with daemons aren't exactly rare in the 41st millennium - but the nature of this one, and the terrors it inflicts, will shock and surprise you.

The story:

With the death of Ruprekt Matkosen, his daughter, Ashielle, is now the Lord Governor of Ceocan. Her father’s murderers still lurk in the shadows, threatening not only her rule but every mortal soul under her protection. Even her own people cannot be trusted - any one of them may be part of the poisonous plot to destroy her bloodline.

Deep beneath the palace, locked away from all human contact, Ashielle finds a weapon unlike any other: a monster, more adept at hunting in the darkness than any assassin. Allying with such a horror is surely blasphemy, but with doom skulking around every corner, Ashielle is forced to revive an ancient pact with the beast. Yet she soon discovers that her family’s mortal enemies are not the only evil that hungers to consume her.

The book was pretty good overall but it was not even slightly scary and some things felt rushed like the character development in the second half and the ending

A great narrator and a great first half

I have read many reviews on this story for months. I have delayed buying it because of the sorry reviews. I have read it too politically driven, not scary, and just boring from some reviews.
My question is what were they complaining about. The narrator is amazing! She covers make and monster voices perfectly. They fear is interesting because it is almost like a horror movie in that you may guess what is next and you may get it wrong . The creator is wickedly interesting. I’m not saying that you’re going to be amazed as I am/ was but I definitely recommend this story because it is a power struggle and sometimes your enemies are very closer than you know. Remember that the Warhammer universe is a depressing and morbid situation. The fun of it is that’s why we love these stories! Buy it and enjoy!

Hmmmmm I was wondering.

Requires more in-depth 40k awareness, but blends the grimdark and horror rather nicely. A surprisingly good first entry into Warhammer horror from part of the 40k universe that I didn't expect to see focused on so soon.

Came for the horror, stayed for the intrigue.

I enjoyed it all til the end when things started happening fast, it felt rushed.

Good but..

The performance was so wonderful. Her voice and ability to create tension, depth and ambiance to all parts were fantastic. Also her ability to bring each distinct character to life with their own unique voice was wonderful. As for the book, I love a lil royal espionage with some spooky touches

The performance was excellent

some good creepy parts and the monster is very scary, but the plot is the star.

spooky, but mostly a good story

If I have any criticism, it's that the story is a little short. Great characters and characterization. The narrator does a fantastic job and really gives each character their own "feel" Highly recommended for Black Library Horror Story.

Nice "Monster in the Dark" Story.

Great listen, not really a horror novel, but still a awesome book definitely check it out

Great Listen

I have 2 negative things to say, it ended to fast/no followup story, and the Voice Actor clearly doesn't know how to pronounce some 40k words, example: Are bait ies is pronounced as Are bee teas.

Not horror, more xenos thriller that grows more malicious.
If you enjoyed Book Keepers Skull, then you will like this one much more. ;)

Would recommend, and will definitely hear again!

MINOR SPOILER.
No Dark Eldar or Chaos is involved. (People often forget there are darker forces in 40k then chaos)

Much better then the other rewiers would suggest.

Characters are well-written, and the author tries to make the story as scary as possible. It’s more politics and character development than horror or bolter porn. I honestly recommend it, as it plays to the strengths of the 40k universe while being it’s own story.

Great book, not a horror novel
