About this listen

Every man, woman, and child knew the legends.

Stories of the Superior and the Five, divine beings that fought an enemy in a war that forever changed their world. Two thousand years later, those stories are all but forgotten. Humanity is ruled by the despot, Emperor Magnus Cytos. The humble men and women of Aecaros live in the fierce shadow of the Sky Pillar. Some dare to fight, while others grasp onto hope.

In the end, they all bend in deference. Still, one man believes. To avoid civil war, the King of Trendaweth, trusts his adopted son, Benjamin Stanton, to end the oppression. As Benjamin and his father look to the restricted lands of Derathos, they discover some legends are true. Uncovering a lie, they trigger the return of superior power. Benjamin discovers his divine purpose. A purpose that could save the world, if darkness doesn’t consume him first.

Fantastic!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was very pleased all around with this book. The characters were well put together and the plot was quickly paced. I was not bored at all while listening to this book. The narrator was well chosen and had a pleasing voice. He was able to capture different personalities and voices without being too overwhelming or overdramatic as some narrators can be. This was a great book and I suggest picking it up if you are not sure if you will like it!

Arrrgh I need the other book

very busy and progressive story. I read it until I had to sleep. the ear/ world building was pretty good and the use of the many gods was exceptional. I am now waiting for the next installment

GREAT FANTASY ADVENTURE

I felt this was an amazing story. Character were well developed with room to grow. The worldbuilding and history of said world is solid. Very solid actually. plenty of rooms for expansions if the writer wants to go that way.

While the characters are solid...there are a lot of them and for some people that may be a pro or con. For the most part I kept up with it. I would also like to see more creative uses of the powers. This can be hard but with the lore I think it's doable.

I highly recommend you give it a listen and the narrator doesn't disappoint.

This was a very classic and fun epic fantasy!

As Magnus -the cruel emperor of Eacaros- resides atop the massive Sky Pillar, his subjects start rioting the streets in defiance of his rule, for food is running out, the population is growing and the taxes are increasing.
So the caring King Leok goes against Magnus's will by sending his adopted son -Benjeman- and several of thier allies on a mission to investigate a peice of land forbidden by the emperor, in hopes of finding more space and farmland to provide.
But Benjamin starts developing Superior powers and has continuous dreams involving the Superior and The Five -who were only spoken of in legends as the Gods of Eacaros.

That was the best description I can give -without spoiling- and I'd like to add that there were several other crucial plotlines and POVs to the story.

So, the narrator -Henry Kramer- was AMAZING! Like seriously, each character had thier own voice and accent! It sometimes felt like there was more the one narrator, however, he was pretty fast, so I had to adjust the speed to understand.

Now, even though the story needed a bit more action and originality, I NEVER felt bored and got hooked from the first chapter + The author was able to take common fantasy tropes like elemental magic and make them original.
The writing was very understandable, beautiful and simple yet never bland with quotable lines.
The plot was very classic -and somewhat typical- yet the characterisation made it unique and the history behind the magic was certainly intresting!
Not to mention that the characters made the book so fun and heartwarming. I REALLY loved them and all thier releshins: friendship, romance, brotherhood. I also l enjoyed seeing how they all developed throughout the duration of the story.

BUT, I didn't like the constant time skipping, like one moment we were here, then it's suddenly 3 months later.
There was also a certain 'trope' or 'thing' which happened to some of the characters and even though it was SO intense and PHENOMENAL to read, it kinda bothered from the side...
Yet the ending was WELL DONE! Action packed and heartfelt with several plot twists! And it had a cliffhanger -not the annoying type! Instead, I am left with unsolved relations, predictions, excitement and high expectations for the sequel!

It felt like a mashup between The Stormlight Archives and Mistborn, yet it's much more classic and less overwhelming. So I really recommend this for epic fantasy lovers

I was torn between a 7 and an 8 -which to me are the line between 4 and 5 stars, sooo a solid 7.9/10. 4 stars
