About this listen

Most days, successful divorce attorney Rebecca Lindt feels like an imposter. The world knows her as a survivor, but that impression would change if everyone knew her secret.

Chef Wes Garrett is trying to get back on his feet after losing his dream restaurant, his money, and half his damn mind in a vicious divorce. But when he intervenes in a mugging late one night and finds he's saved Rebecca Lindt, the divorce attorney who helped his ex-wife, his simple life gets a lot more complicated.

The pair soon finds themselves helping each other in life's endeavors. But soon, when Rebecca's secret is at risk, they discover they could lose more than they thought, including what they never realized they needed: each other.

Excellent slow burn

This series is just slaying it!!

We have this well constructed friendship and history with 4 girls from high school that have stayed good friends and have each other’s backs.

Then, we have this heroine who is doing pretty well for herself as an attorney. Then one night is held up at gunpoint. Hero runs in to save her does everything right and really takes care of her until she recognizes her from a past client. And doesn’t remember him in a great light. But, how could he be this awful person she remembers if he’s so great at everything he did that night to care and show concern for her??

I love the slow burn of this story!!

Not as good as 1st in series

Lawyer Rebecca suffers from major guilt over being a mean girl and turning down one of the shooters as a prom dat. She is the queen of the what if’s, which gets annoying and she is willing to be bullied by her father until she meets Chef Wes, King of the hard knocks and a recovering alcoholic. He’s had some tough breaks- the roughest resulting in an unfair divorce settlement engineered by the talented Rebecca. He’s sweet and seedy though and she gradually becomes more likeable and grows a backbone.
The story was interesting but not riveting- a B or B- but the narration was barely a C- and at times bordered on a D+. This book needed either a more talented single narrator or duel narration.
