A Wall Street Journal Best Science Fiction Book of 2018

“Just try to put this gripping thriller down once you pick it up.”—AARP

“A shock on every other page.”—Wall Street Journal

How far would you go to find The One?

A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you’ll be matched with your perfect partner—the one you’re genetically made for.

That’s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.

Now five very different people have received the notification that they’ve been “Matched.” They’re each about to meet their one true love. But “happily ever after” isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

A word-of-mouth hit in the United Kingdom, The One is a fascinating novel that shows how even the simplest discoveries can have complicated consequences.

What could go wrong ? DNA matched partner for life ?

Quick delve into the modern day sci-fi where advancing biological technology allows for much more advanced match-making then our parents relied on . In times of Elon Musk passenger travel to outer space and 30 day vaccinations for global pandemics , John Marrs precept that true love is just a mouth swab away , is an entertaining notion . Of course with most revolutionary scientific discoveries what could go wrong .
A lot of characters to keep track of in the beginning , but once identities are established along with their back story it becomes easier to follow . Good character development and consistency. Truly intriguing characters that easily could have their own novel. Loved the multiple suspenseful cut always to the next story line . Clever finish as well . Fantastic narration by the entire cast !

Dragged in parts

I enjoyed this. However, it was slow in some parts and kind of silly in others. Johns Marr’s book “The Passengers” kept me turning the pages much faster (or listening) for longer periods.

Good story, well read

This was a good book. Narration was good, and there were enough plot twists to keep you reading. The ending was a bit abrupt, but aside from that, good job.

Interesting concept

I like the concept, didn’t feel connected to any of the characters though. Have to write 15 words

Clever premise, heavy on cliches.

I needed a light read after my last book, and this fit the bill. It is a super clever idea - there is a unique person out there who is DNA matched for you. Once you are "matched" you are essentially starstruck. That's not giving anything away as you figure that out in the first 2 pages of the book. The book follows a few of these matches and the story lines are somewhat interesting. There are some rather predictable plot twists, but they keep the book moving along.

I guess it was good. It certainly kept my attention. However, the overuse of cliches was exasperating. I'm not some literary snob, hence why I read books like this, but you were guaranteed to get some over used line nearly every 3rd or 4th paragraph. I really didn't want any more of the book and not sure any less would have been satisfying either. Maybe just read it.

Storyline

Wow - this author really knows how to captivate you. Not only is the theory of the dating site fascinating but the different ways it could affect one’s life was well thought out. Fascinating! The voice authors were also on brand with capturing each character and not sounding like a robot. 10 out of 10 recommend!

marrs never disappoints

Trigger warnings in book: miscarriage, cancer

A slight slow burn in the beginning which gave the opportunity to fully develop each character and couple. Then things unravel at a sickening pace as the reader contemplates what they would do in a similar situation and who is right and who is wrong.
