About this listen

Maternal burnout is a real thing with dangerous consequences. Take care of yourself so you have the energy to care for everyone else.

You've likely heard others tell you that having a newborn is tough. But if you're a new mom who's feeling completely worn out and dealing with crazy hormones and a severe lack of sleep, those old clichés about motherhood can seem like a cruel joke. You might find yourself laughing one minute and crying the next.

But it’s not just about being exhausted to all-new limits. You are angry with the world and even more so with yourself. Women are “built” to raise children, so why are you finding it so hard? Why does it feel like everything you do is wrong?

As a pregnant woman, all the attention was on you and what you should do to take care of yourself. From the moment the baby comes along, this attention falls on a tiny person who can’t communicate their needs. It’s your sole job to determine those needs and fulfill them.

Or is it?

Motherhood is demanding (to say the least), but when all of your mental and physical energy is directed towards a tiny human, you are neglecting yourself. And when you are neglected, you don’t have the energy or strength to take care of your completely dependent newborn.

But you’re probably thinking how can I possibly put my needs above those of my baby?

The truth of the matter is, your baby needs you to be at your best, and this is achieved through self-care.

Self-care has many misconceptions, and due to the prefix, it’s all too often associated with selfishness. But since when is it wrong to take care of your well-being in order to be a better parent and lead a more fulfilling life?

In this self-care guide for new moms, you will discover:

  • The ultimate triad of self-care that will boost your energy levels, improve your sleep, and make you feel better about yourself
  • Five simple, nutritious recipes that you can cook in bulk that will save time and money and give you a few nights off of having to worry about what’s for dinner
  • Why decluttering and getting organized is an essential part of self-care for moms and step-by-step guides to get there
  • How emotions can’t simply be blamed on hormones, plus seven steps to improved emotional intelligence that will benefit your baby in the future
  • Experiences from real moms who have been in your shoes and not only survived but thrived thanks to self-care
  • How to overcome perfectionism and imposter syndrome as a new mom
  • Twenty positive affirmations that will reframe your thoughts and even rewire your brain
  • Exactly what it takes to empathize with your partner, communicate your needs, and reignite intimacy after childbirth
  • How to say no and protect your boundaries during this crucial time in your life
  • Twenty-one self-care activities that you can do in five minutes—with no experience or equipment
  • And much more

Let’s be honest: looking at your current reality, you will think that there are so many other things more pressing than your own well-being. There are expectations to be filled, homes to be cleaned, and endless guests to be entertained.

But… your baby doesn’t care if the laundry isn’t done. Your partner doesn’t care if your body has changed. Your family isn’t visiting you to judge your home.

BE NICE TO THE MAMA!

Author Olivia Rose gives new mothers sage and timely advice in this engaging book.
She emphasizes that constructive self-care is NOT selfish but a valuable investment in yourself and in your family.
Being the focus during your pregnancy to the sudden shift of attention to the beautiful new baby can be daunting, with many mothers not being emotionally prepared for this unforeseen dichotomy.
Ms. Rose guides the new mother into how to improve flagging energy, recoup better sleep, and feel good about herself despite those nagging old tapes in your head.
She shares very practical tips for saving time and effort, creating an orderly space with minimal effort, getting a handle on the emotional rollercoaster, and, most importantly, real-life anecdotes from other moms who’ve been through it all and are willing to help you move past postpartum angst.
I love the helpful affirmations. I use affirmations every day of my life, so I KNOW they work, and the ones included here can make a transformative change in your feelings and attitudes.
Jessie Clark Funk brought the engaging writing to life with her soothing narration and paced delivery, making this audiobook a real pleasure to listen to.
BTW, this great book sure makes me glad I get to be the boy!
Give this book a listen, and be nice to the mama!

An important listen!

I enjoyed listening to this beautifully narrated book, one that I believe every new or expecting mother should have at hand. So many books and tools prepare us for the arrival of a newborn, providing all the technical advice; however, the shock and responsibilities that come with being a new parent can have serious impacts on well-being and mental health, which is why I believe books live this one are so important. Certainly worth sharing with new mothers!

Expert Advice for New Moms

Ok, one of the very best things about this audiobook is the emphasis on the fact that self care is not selfish and that by taking care of yourself, you truly are giving to your child and family. This is a concept I struggled with. The author empathetically takes you through and emphasizes the importance of taking care of yourself, and she breaks it down into some really great, simple things you can do that do not take a lot of time. I have read other books on this topic and was always frustrated because the actions they suggested were too involved and took WAY too much time. A new Mom does not have a lot of time and this audiobook gave me a ton of support and things I can quickly do that have a significant impact and help me avoid burnout, I love this!
