Your secrets. Her lies.
Cassie stares at the woman on her doorstep in disbelief. Just months after losing her only son, Josh, here stands a stranger claiming to be Josh’s girlfriend. But it’s not only the woman Cassie is shocked by, it’s the baby nestled in Kim’s arms. Cassie’s grandchild.
I know what you did.
As Cassie tries to do what’s best for baby Samuel, she starts to receive threatening messages from someone from her past - someone Cassie has been hiding from for a long time. Cassie is frightened that her biggest secret is about to be revealed and she will lose everything, including her precious grandson.
You took everything from me. Now you need to pay.
As the messages get more sinister, Cassie realizes the person behind them knows every detail about her life and she fears that she is being watched. Could Kim be the link between Cassie and the mysterious messenger? And is she in danger now that she has welcomed this woman and her baby into her home?
A truly gripping pause resister that will keep you listening well into the night, The New Girlfriend is for fans of The Girl on the Train, My Lovely Wife, and Gone Girl.

Whoa!! What a ride that was!

We have a grieving mother who's lost her son to a tragic accident, a grieving step father who is trying to cope with his wife's grief and his own, and an unknown girl who shows up at the door claiming to have, in her hands, the baby of the deceased.
While one's head may start to go in several obvious directions (ie, 'She's lying!' 'Get a paternity test!'), Browne puts together a unique twist that surprises the reader.
I would have given 'The New Girlfriend' 5 stars had I not figured out the 'twist' halfway through the book. However, I suppose those of us with devious minds always expect the unexpected, and the worst from people!

And there was a suicide, but they don’t even explain if the suicide was successful. There was the anti-heroine getting clocked over the head and left and assumed dead; but then later on said to still be alive & to have been spotted in other places in Europe..
The anti-heroine; she’s the one who should be charged with an accomplice to murder if the lady who committed suicide died; which it is not even stated whether she survived or died.
The book had potential to be a great book but the ending was not clear; nor was there even 1 happy after effect- instead everyone’s life was ruined. I wish I had not spent the last several hours listening to this audiobook.
Not even one happy character left the book at the end. Every relationship destroyed-and no happiness left… The book wasn’t even redeemable by the characters being likable in the end.
Charged for no crime committed???
