There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. From Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, comes a witty, charming, and hilariously relatable debut novel about a struggling young actress trying to get ahead - and keep it together - in New York City. It’s January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing "important" work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club....

Story
Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Publisher's summary
Now, the no-holds-barred private eye returns, along with his gorgeous secretary, Velda, and a collection of New York City characters, in two fully dramatized "theater-of-the-mind" audio adventures: "Dangerous Days" and "Oil and Water."
Narrated by Stacy Keach, the acclaimed actor who starred in the original Mike Hammer television series, these new mysteries are written by the writers of that show and enhanced with a full supporting cast, sound effects, and music. Even the show's jazzy theme song is back to set the gritty tone for each episode.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Shallow but enjoyable
Bed hopping hammer moves very quickly from scene to scene without a whole lot of deaths or character profiling. Entertaining storylines, and good production. Make this as good as watching a TV serial program.

Nice modern version of the classic.
2 stories included. Mr Keech is excellent in his old role. very enjoyable. The great thing about audio drama is that it doesn't matter how old you are or what you look like in real life, your ears paint the picture with these.

Love Mickey Spillane
I met Mickey at LAX. We were waiting for our respective flights. I first noticed a guy with a Fort Hayes State letterman’s sweater when I looked at the man wearing it it was Mickey. I walked over and said, so you’re a Tigers fan? He looked up and said, ‘how the hell did you know that? I explained that I was a former sports reporter that worked in Kansas and covered every school at one time. He signed the book I was reading at the time, by a business author Tom Peters, In Search of Excellence. The inscription says, “Tim, Thanks for stopping. Can’t believe you are reading this crap, NO ACTION! Mickey Spillane, aka Mike Hammer.
Pretty cool.
