About this listen

The confession of Helmut Grund explores one of the second World War's most notorious men. Grund had trained his men well, and his new methods had held Deutschland's casualties down to 15 dead and 35 wounded, compared to much higher losses in the other units of the V-Truppe operating in Poland.

In the eyes of Hitler and high-ranking members of the SS, the V-Truppe had proven itself in the field. Despite army resistance, an SS police division was formed in late September.

On October 10, SS Gruppenführer (Lt. Gen.) Hausser began forming the motorized Verfügungstruppe Division (V Division), which would later be renamed Das Reich. Three regiments - Germania, Der Führer, and Grunds Deutschland - made up the division. This is his story.

Horrible narration

The reason I struggled to finish this book is because the narrator was terrible the pronouncing of German words was awful it was a real bear to struggle to listen to this book to the end . Otherwise this probably would have been a lot more interesting story but the narrator did kill this book unfortunately.

Worst produced book of my 100+ library by far

Poorly done in every way. Many sections have sentences that are "skipping" or jumbled so they are unintelligible. The Narrirator is probably ok but production value turns him into sounding like garbage. Very monotone.

The story is terrible as well. Nothing of substance happens until the last chapter.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

"Slow" narrator and slow delivery. Narrator had trouble pronouncing many words. Story read like a bland resume, monotone, no emotion and definitely no admission of guilt. The only time there was any reference to a "murder squad" was when his SS patrol killed whole villages because they supposedly harbored resistance fighters (read like it was just part of a days work) and turned over to the SD a number of Poles they caught--and that's it nothing more. Huge disappointment.
