About this listen
Wall Street is corrupt and has been corrupt for generations. There are to be found the Great Men shuffling millions (and now billions) from one bank, one trust, one syndicate, and one scheme to the next. Wealth brings power and with the power comes more wealth.
Upton Sinclair tells us this tale through the eyes of a Wall Street lawyer in 1906. A man who is "in Society" but not truly "of Society". A man named Montague begins to bit by bit to see the true rape and pillage of the economy which is going on day by day.
The Moneychangers is Upton Sinclair's barely fictionalized account of the financial crisis, and in the novel, a character based on J.P. Morgan is lauded for rescuing everyone from a crisis that he created.
The narration is by AudioFile Magazine Earphones Award-winning narrator Peter Lerman.

As he did so masterfully in The Jungle, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Upton Sinclair interweaves social criticism with human tragedy to create an unforgettable portrait of Southern California's early oil industry. Once, the Lamartine Hotel was a quiet refuge for New York’s stuffy fashionable set. But by the 1890s, fashion has moved uptown, and the lobby of the Lamartine has been overtaken by natty young sports, who pass their afternoons with billiards or shows of noisy derring-do. Story
The sublime beauty of Hawaii nearly a century ago is captured in this first book featuring the fictional Honolulu police detective, Charlie Chan. Author Biggers was staying at a hotel on Waikiki Beach in the 1920s when he was inspired to write the book. The Chan role at first was relatively minor, and he didn’t say anything until several chapters had gone by. However, the concept caught on when the literary public wanted more of him. That prompted five subsequent books as the character became more prominent.

Story
The two strikingly original short novels brought together here - in new translations by award-winning translators - were both literary gambles of a sort for Fyodor Dostoevsky. The first real expression of his genius, The Double is a surprisingly modern hallucinatory nightmare in which a minor official named Goliadkin becomes aware of a mysterious doppelgänger. Written 20 years later under the pressure of crushing debt, The Gambler is a stunning psychological portrait of a young man's exhilarating and destructive addiction.

Story
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

The economic calamity of 1904 is made clear by this most important writer. The last couple chapters make our banking system very understandable.
