About this listen

Single mother Roz has reached her breaking point. After the dissolution of her marriage, Roz's business has gone under, debts are racking up, the rent is late, and she's struggling to provide for her son, who is misbehaving in school. When Roz gets an eviction notice, she knows it's time for action - she has two weeks to find a solution, or they will be kicked out of their home.

Increasingly desperate, Roz doesn't know where to turn. At her sister's fortieth birthday party, Roz meets Scott Elias - wealthy, powerful, and very married. But the impression Roz leaves on him is indelible. He tracks her down and makes Roz an offer to spend the night with him - for money. He wants no-strings-attached intimacy and can guarantee total discretion. With that kind of cash, Roz is forced to do things she never thought herself capable of.

4th Book is another winner!!

I love this author soo much because she doesn't seem to just crank out nonsense to make money but persists on taking her time and writing EXCELLENT stories. What Kind of Mother Are You, Open Your Eyes, Keep Your Friends Close and this book, The Mistake I Made are surely best sellers. Paula Daly is so organized and detail oriented but not to the point of redundancy by any means. I read these 4 books in about a week. I'm starting the last one, I think, called The Trophy Child. I keep waiting for disappointment because so many authors I've got excited about in my recent past, end up writing a couple really good reads only to write crap novels afterwards. I wish Daly would write more books. She's my favorite author thus far comparing her to Lisa Gardner, who wrote Hide and Say Goodbye, EXCELLENT BOOKS, Karin Slaughter, who wrote Unseen, VERY GOOD ALSO, Lisa Jackson, Lisa Jewell, Kathy Reich, who wrote De Ja BONES, etc. Thomas Harris who wrote Silence of the Lambs is also good. I would recommend all 4 of Paula Dalys books outlined above and you won't be disappointed.

Over and over

I’ve read this book over and over. Love it.
Really love the narrator. She did great at mimicking children and male voices. I’ll keep listening over and over. I’ve got the Kindle, the Audible, and the actual book.

Please write a book 2!

Everyone let Roz down

Everyone let Roz down, everyone and all she did was forgive them and keep adding more stress on herself.

Her sister was a self-absorbed bitch you needed to be told off. The ex husband needed to be taken to court and made to pay his fair share and his mother needed to be told off as well.
Poor Roz is so desperate to not lose the little she has left and does whatever she needs to in order to help and protect her son.
Scott is not who he pretends to be.

The Mistake I Made

Purchasing the audiobook has Benin by far the worst mistake I've made in ages. It's like listening to a horrible episode so Bewitched. Next time, I will not be the first review. Totally inappropriate introduction for the protagonist.

Can't get past the contradictions

Any additional comments?

I wanted to like this book. The narrator was good, the premise was interesting. The problem is that the main character is not just unlikable, but impossible to understand. It's not that I disagree with what she did - she seemed to have no thought or guilt. I've read books with characters that were terrible people, but at least I could understand the motivation, and their behavior was rather consistent. In this, the mother is horrified that her son would steal from school, yet she doesn't seem to have any problems stealing from work. There was no guilt or shame shown, and yet previously she acted like she had a strong moral compass. For her to then explain how difficult it was that her husband had an affair, and then become a mistress herself - there was no real explanation of how she could get to that point. The character development wasn't there. Things that should have been a huge red flag she didn't give a passing thought. I guess, bottom line: her character was more unbelievable to me than something out of a sci-fi book. Too many problems to look past.
