About this listen

Solving the puzzle could be the last thing he does....

PI Charlie Dodge knows what it’s like to have something important disappear. His wife, Annie, suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s, causing her to remember little of the life she shared with her husband. Charlie has devoted his career to saving what he can - missing people, threatened lives. But when prominent Denver multimillionaire Carter Dunleavy vanishes without a trace, Charlie and his assistant, Wyrick, discover missing doesn’t always mean gone.

It turns out Carter didn’t vanish after all - he’s gone into hiding. Someone in his inner circle wants him dead, and now, Carter needs Charlie to expose the culprit before the Dunleavy empire spirals into ruin. But with a tangled web of suspects looking to silence Charlie’s investigation, he’ll have to find Carter’s would-be killer and fast, before the traitor can finish the job.

Story was good and narration was well done. The ending suggests a sequel (7which may already be out there.)

Unfortunately, I had listened to the newer books first, which did not make sense, but very good!!

So this is a really good story. I listen to the clips and the person that is narrating his voice is very good. That’s why I chose this book. The language as far as the swear words is what is putting me off buying another book. But this is a really good work.

A good find I’m glad I listened to the clips.

This is one of those books that grabbed my attention right from the beginning and never let go! I was so sorry when it ended I immediately looked to see if a sequel was in the works. Happily it will be coming out it January 2020.
This is a who done it (or maybe I should say who’s trying to do it). When the head of a wealthy family finds someone is trying to kill him he disappears. His nephew hires Charlie Dodge to find him or his body so the family business can continue to run with a new family member taking over control. A very twisted investigation ensues and all around people are being murdered. An attempt is even made on the nephew’s life.
The private investigation part of the story is great. It’s the secondary story running in the background that’s rather interesting. Charlie’s assistant (Wyrick) used to work for a company That somehow works with genetics. They want her back, she keeps moving and hiding from them. Her genetic makeup is referenced more than a few times. And in the way background Charlie ‘s wife is deteriorating in an institutional setting with early onset Alzheimers.
I could be wrong but I’m thinking that book two will have more about Wyrick, her knowledge of genetics and Charlie’s wife.
Adam Gold does a wonderful job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Loved it!

Although this series appears to be written by a woman, it does not particularly read that way. There is not a lot of unnecessary emotional goop. The characters, (a man and woman running an investigating business) and story line are interesting enough to hold you rapt for the whole nine hours. The narrator is a man and has an easy-listening voice. He does not over-emote or grate on your nerves. It left me wanting more, so I purchased the second book! There appears to be an underlying mystery, and perhaps a low-key love story underlying the series. But each book is a stand-alone novel..

Very good series!
