About this listen

Where belief defines reality, delusion is both a strength and a curse. The deeper you sink into madness the more powerful you become.

But that power comes with a price. Your darkest nightmares hunt you at night. The face in the mirror hates you and wants to be free. Your fears manifest and plot your destruction.

Bedeckt defined himself by the list of crimes he was unwilling to commit. It was such a short list. How could straying from it have gone so wrong? Now, Bedeckt must undo the damage caused by wandering from his precious list. The Geborene god seeks to remake the world with his obsessive need for cleanliness and perfection, but Bedeckt is going to bring him down. Nothing can stop him. Not even death. But the two friends he abandoned in the Afterdeath chase after him, bent on revenge, and psychotic assassins hunt him. Something cold and evil follows, lurking in the clouds above, shredding reality with its delusions. Madness and sanity war, stretching and tearing the very fabric of existence.

The dead shall rise.

Thrilling Action • Hauntingly Interesting Story • Great Narrator • Refreshing Twist • Shocking Conclusion

A deep reworking of classic dramatic themes--sanity and delusion, meaning and despair, love and betrayal--in a world where delusions define external reality. A refreshing twist on the familiar with a shocking conclusion that rings true in our own (maybe slightly less insane on good days?) world. Brilliant narration. Not for everyone due to all the killing and shite.

think you're sane? try this

good reader and a damn fun story. Fletcher must be a bit unhinged to create such a world.

another winner from Fletcher

I don’t usually rate books but thought I would do something nice for once. This really was a very good book.

As grim as the day is long.

Not as good as the first one. Too many inner monologues (not enough banter between the three main characters) but still way above average in this genre.
More great (new) delusionists
Great swordspeople
Great horses
Raining blood

Repetitive lunacy

While the action is abundant and thrilling, the real heart of this story is the characters. Their motivations, the way they think, their behaviors, just everything. it's a deep dive into the psychology of those deeply damaged. and done amazingly well. the narrator just hits with the whole tone and atmosphere. Absolutely incredible.

Absolutely mindblowing.

Great sequel to the first one. If you liked the first one in this series "Beyond Redemption" you will enjoy this one as well. Thoroughly enjoyed with a great story and great narrator.

A great sequel

great story

The story, same as the first is hauntingly interesting, but lacks any real substance. You still don’t fully understand how the entire world works. Other than in the city states where delusion and madness equal power, you don’t know if that is how the whole world is, or just this small hardly descript setting. It feels like nothing was really accomplished, and is just filler until the next book. I’d like to know if there are any “sane” humans left, or if the whole world has succumbed to madness. Things are hinted at in the first two books, but never really made manifest. Hoping for a good conclusion cause right now this series just feels like it’s gruesome for the sake of being gruesome.

Good but……

For the fans of grimdark fantasy it is just the right place. I liked the first book (I read it) and this one I liked more because I got more familiar with its world.
Before it, I had finished The Age of Madness trilogy and I was searching for a book with a narrator I would like. I was spoiled with Steven Pacey, no one gets near him in terms of performance, but I liked listening to Paul Woodson almost as much after I got used with his style. The only minus would be the parts in which a character shouts something and Paul Woodson narrates in a calm, monotone voice. That was funny for me and I overlooked it.
So, if you are like me and you want something to listen after Joe Abercrombie's books, the Manifest Delusion series is a very good choice. I wish there would be an audio version for the third book in the series as well.

Great Book
