About this listen

Evil exists. Evil walks the streets. And evil has spawned a diabolical new disciple in this white-knuckle thriller from New York Times best-selling author Tess Gerritsen.

PECCAVI. The Latin word is scrawled in blood at the scene of a young woman's brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. It's a chilling Christmas greeting for Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, who swiftly link the victim to controversial celebrity psychiatrist Joyce O'Donnell, Jane's professional nemesis and a member of a sinister cabal called the Mephisto Club.

On top of Beacon Hill, the club's acolytes devote themselves to the analysis of evil: Can it be explained by science? Does it have a physical presence? Do demons walk the earth? Drawing on a wealth of dark historical data and mysterious religious symbolism, the Mephisto scholars aim to prove a startling theory: that Satan himself exists among us.

With the grisly appearance of a corpse on their doorstep, it's clear that someone, or something, is indeed prowling the city. The members of the club begin to fear the very subject of their study. Could this maniacal killer be one of their own, or have they inadvertently summoned an evil entity from the darkness?

Delving deep into the most baffling and unusual case of their careers, Maura and Jane embark on a terrifying journey to the very heart of evil, where they encounter a malevolent foe more dangerous than any they have ever faced...one whose work is only just beginning.

Great story, Disapointing Narrrator

The narrator was a big disapointment but the story was great. The narrator did not have the ability to change her voice to play the various characters in the book. As a result, I fould myself rewinding much of the time to keep track of which character was speaking. A poor narrator can ruin and otherwise great book.

Wish there was a Mephisto Club Series!

Loved this change of pace for Rizzoli and Isles. I always expected Tess Gerritsen to write a Mephisto Club series.

Thriller

This story is very similar to the DaVinci Code in that it deals with a secret society related to religion. It is a great listen and keeps you spell bound wondering what is going to happen next. The reader does a great job in portraying the characters.

Captivating.

Right from the get-go, this story grabs you.
Then -it keeps you in suspence till the very last sentence.
It is very well written and also well read. I liked the narrator. And, while the storyline was a "bit bizarre"...man..it really got you to thinking...hmmm...could it be possible?

This would make me want to read ALL of this authors books.

Great narrator

I enjoyed another Rizzoli and Isles book! This one had a great narrator! Ready to read the next one, The Keepsake.

Worth the Listen!

This is a very well written book, and quite enjoyable!

I am not a fan of books about "EVIL" and the darkside, but I heard the book was worth it, so I gave it a shot.

My only knock on the audiobook is the reading. Due to the way the book was written, it was difficult to determine who was speaking until you were a few minutes into the persona. The book should have had multiple readers. Plus, her Boston accent is atrocious. The only thing worse than a Boston accent is a bad impression of a Boston accent :)

Overall; however, a very enjoyable audiobook!

Love all Tess Gerritsen books!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Mephisto Club to be better than the print version?

I like audio books for long road trips. Kathe Mazur dues a great job of Dr. Isles.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mephisto Club?

How art meets science, the secret Illuminati, and kind of historical air to it.

Which character – as performed by Kathe Mazur – was your favorite?

Dr. Isles

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Had to remember when to gas up, so I guess so!
