About this listen
A deep and riveting psychological thriller inspired by true events of the Victorian era, The Medea Complex explores the nature of the human psyche: what possesses us, what drives us, and how love, passion, and hope for the future can drive us to insanity.
It's 1885. Anne Stanbury wakes up in a strange bed, having been kidnapped from her home. As the panic settles in, she realizes she has been committed to a lunatic asylum, deemed insane and therefore unfit to stand trial for an unspeakable crime. But all is not as it seems.
Edgar Stanbury, her husband as well as a grieving father, is torn between helping his confined wife recover her sanity and seeking revenge for his ruined life. But Anne's future rests wholly in the hands of Dr. George Savage, chief medical officer of Bethlem Royal Hospital. The Medea Complex is the darkly compelling story of a lunatic, a lie, and a shocking revelation that elucidates the difference between madness and evil.

The death of Callie Scott's fashionable father left her with nothing - except an inquisitive mind not even her grandmother's puritanical upbringing could quash. An adventurous spirit doesn't get her much in New York City, however, except an abysmal position as a ladies maid. Things are looking up when she lands a trial job in a library. Her benefactor's offer of wine before noon should have signaled something amiss.

Mystery and suspense
I felt like I was listening to a murder mystery radio program. The narration and storyline were both able to hold my attention until the end. I highly recommend this audiobook. It is now one of my favorite listen for the year.

Dark and intriguing
I listened simply because Elizabeth Sastre is one of the narrators but has few chapters. Story is very well written but not uplifting, just not my genre.

Kept my attention from start to finish
This was a very entertaining book especially if you enjoy mysteries that entail psychology. It did keep me wondering how it would end. Great narrators especially Bianca Amato (I love her in many books)
