Quiet Romance

This was a sweet story. The main characters were likeable but not all that interesting. I usually enjoy a little more excitement in my romance, and the storyline did not offer much in the way of conflict. If you do like quiet, sweet romances, then you might enjoy this one.

Enjoyable

Borrowed through my Audible Plus membership.
Putney is one of my favorite early historical romance writers and this book adds magic. I’m happy with these engaging characters and an enjoyable story that has romance, mystery & tension, but nothing too horrible (i.e. won’t harsh your happy vibe).
Abigail Barton has admired Jack Langdon, Lord Freyn, from afar for many years, but he hasn’t noticed her. Everything changes when he breaks his neck riding to the hunt. It takes a power circle of fellow magicians to save his life. The amount of combined power along with the time needed to heal Jack has unintended consequences for both. While Abby gains a desired ability, Jack’s latent power starts rising after an entire childhood of having it beaten out of him. Bonus, they agree to marry.
A mystery arises when it looks like a magic spell was used on him to abhor magic. When he is able to break it, he finds he had two abhorrence spells cast on him.
Then there’s the mystery of his need to stay away from his ancestral home. And why the estate has been steadily declining. Ever since his mother remarried. And it looks like someone put a repulsion spell on him. Now it looks like Jack needs to learn his own magic to protect himself from the more powerful magics being used against him.
Don’t fret because there’s a nice HEA at the end;-)

Prebble is a great narrator. Along with the quality of writing, he melds into the story and you’re there.
Enjoyable entertainment.

Great Story! The narrator makes is great!

I will listen to any historical romance that Simon Prebble narrates, which is why I picked this audiobook. I loved the story. Mary Jo Putney is a new author to me but now I'm ready to ready anything she's written.

I hope she has Simon narrate more of her stories.

Wonderful!

If you like wizardry and romance this will make for very interesting "reading". Have read is at least 6-7 times. The reader makes everyone become real and even after reading it so many times, I'm still enchanted with it. Set in the 1800s, where wizards are commonplace but not generally accepted, how the two main characters deal with the topic of magic. Would love to see more of Mary Jo Putney's books on this website.

Marriage Spell

This is a wonderful fantasy romance with hero and heroine growing to love each other rather than fall madly in love at first sight.
There journey and triumph over evil bring them closely together and augment there love. I would have really liked to see a follow up focused on the hero’s friends though. The narrator was simply outstanding.

The Marriage Spell is a wonderful story.

Loved the whole story! I wish Mary Jo Putney would write sequels to this story like she originally planned. They need to be told!!
