What a thriller? I was so warped into this story. The profiling the killings. It brought me to a saddened part of me that I needed to piece together. A puzzle I must figure out. Alex is a great writer and I became a fan for life.

The narration was amazing!

Just finished and I’m still not over it. This book was both creepy and heartbreaking in ways I wasn’t prepared for. North’s writing pulled me right in, and the eerie, almost dreamlike atmosphere made it feel like I was trapped in a nightmare—but one I couldn’t stop reading.

Dark, creepy, and incredibly sad.

Haunted by an almost fatal encounter that took place when he was a child, Daniel, now a criminal psychologist, is dealing with the notion that the past is seeking revenge. After receiving news of his father's suspicious death and uncovering a photo depicting his father discovering the burned body of a woman; a victim of the Man Made of Smoke, Daniel is forced to face the past as he works to determine who the Man Made of Smoke is before any more victims turn up.

One of his best!

Hit all the marks - suspense, character development, atmosphere, pace. Excellent writing. Going to revisit his other titles.

Gripping story.

Good listen, went very quickly. This was the first book I read from the author, and I’m going to search out more.

Stressful and...Inspiring?

Alex North does such a beautiful job of making you love and care for his characters. Which makes their peril all the more terrifying. Wonderful book!

Scare factor

I really enjoyed this novel. The scares get started right off the bat. A well constructed story with lots of twists and turns and trying to figure out what’s going on. I recommend it to those who don’t scare easily.

If you loved Silence of the Lambs you will LOVE this book. The twists and turns keep you guessing, and just when you think you know what's happening, you DONT. It's 3:50 AM On a Sunday night and here I am staying up to write a review. That's because I stayed up to listen to it and now I can't get back to sleep! This is absolutely worth your time. 5 huge stars and 2 big thumbs up !!!

Definitely a bit slow

But with an excellent payoff. Very well written. If you need immediate satisfaction this may not be the book for you. If you like building suspense, an intricate plot line, and a nice twist make sure to give it a listen.

Amazing story. Absolutely perfect work of crime fiction. I listen to a lot of mysteries and Alex North is by far one of the most fantastic authors.
