About this listen

RITA finalist Julie Klassen has earned numerous awards for her popular historical romance novels. In The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, pampered Margaret Macy flees her home in London to avoid marrying a dishonorable man. Now, with no money and no place to stay, Margaret does the unthinkable: she takes a job as a housemaid in the home of two brothers - both of whom are former suitors. As an “invisible” observer, Margaret realizes she may have misjudged one brother and wonders if it’s too late to win his admiration.

This is s story that is not that easy to see how it will play out...but the story keeps the listener engaged and ready for the next step! Great performance reading!!

Good story

Sometimes a book introduces strong characters or sweeping scenery that takes your breath away. While this book did have wonderful characters and an interesting setting, in my opinion this work was so enjoyable because it was just a really good story. A story that burrowed into your heart and mind, and transported you exactly where Ms. Klassan wishes you to be. Once again, she has earned all her awards and accolades. The only thing wrong with this book is that it ultimately has to come to the inevitable end. Ms. Klassan, how about a sequel?

beautiful story of change

I love Julie Klassen, and this is one of my favorites of hers. I love the character development, seeing real change in people who are hopelessly flawed like me. The story has enough mystery and romance between all the storylines that it pulls me through effortlessly. we'll done.

Love the author

Was a nice story lots of twist and turns. Felt it could have been edited down some. The intrigue over who the maid was or was not got a bit tedious at times. I enjoyed having a story that actually talks about what the poor staff must of had to deal with on a daily basis in a house of quality. Usually these period stories don’t discuss this part of their lives. Daily having to empty the chamber pots…jump at their employers beck and call. Treated as less than. But still expected to care and respect their betters.
I also liked that the characters were well developed and I enjoyed getting to know them. Even the villains LOL

Good story, but seemed to end abruptly.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Maybe. It's a good story, but seems to end so abruptly it's really disappointing.

If you’ve listened to books by Julie Klassen before, how does this one compare?

Well it seemed to me as if the writer just ran out material and ended the story. No epilogue, etc.

Any additional comments?

Listened quickly, enjoyed the story and mystery, but was disappointed in the last couple of chapters and specifically the abrupt ending.

Abrupt ending

Would have loved a follow up, the story was very long for such a short ending. Still worth the read
