About this listen

The Loving Cup is the tenth in Winston Graham's sweeping series of Cornwall, Poldark.

Cornwall, 1813. A silver cup lies half forgotten in a dank cave, amongst a pile of stolen goods. Yet the tiny vessel and its inscription, "Amor gignit amorem", haunts the lives of the still-feuding Poldark and Warleggan families, as Ross, Demelza and the ambitious and powerful Sir George Warleggan watch their children make the decisions that will shape their destinies.

In the closing years of the wars against Napoleon, for Jeremy and Clowance, and for arrogant, cynical Valentine Warleggan, these are troubled and momentous times....

This series is my absolute favorite

Any additional comments?

Has anyone else yelled at Clowance, Ross and Demelza about Stephen Carrington? I just can't grasp the concept of Ross and Demelza, who are both blessed with a sharp insight to peoples' characters, allowing Clowance to become embroiled with Stephen so easily. If I had been Ross I would have sent someone up to Bristol to find out what they could about him. Demelza has a sixth sense about people but she never used her very sage wisdom to warn Clowance of the type of man she was dealing with which I found odd. See?? This is how engrossed you will get with these novels! Oliver J Hembrough needs to do more narration work. He is phenomenal.

Can’t wait for the next book.

I’m never bored or restless listening to these books. They keep me
Engaged and waiting to see what will happen next. Absolutely love the family connection with the Poldarks and their children. I will be sad when I’m done with this series. Best ever

Can't wait for the next Audible books in this series to be released!

Of course this book follows the previous books in this series in its excellent performance, and the writings of its author. The many strange words used in the characters' dialects send me searching the web for their meanings, alas many of them are difficult to find. I think they add so much authenticity to the stories that I feel ps\art of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. I have heard that Graham thoroughly researched these historical periods, and I have learned a great deal of English history! I highly recommend this series to all!

Made Me Laugh

There were parts of this episode of the Poldark saga that made me laugh. After reading so many books in this series, the characters feel like old friends. Graham has created a cast with a realness that is only added to with Oliver J. Hembrough’s narration. The Loving Cup very much felt like a sequel-prequel, not standing as a good read on its own. I’ve felt for a long time that Winston Graham waxed on way too long about the specifics of how a mine works. Even more tedious was his lengthy passages relating history and politics.
So if you have read the earlier books in the series, you will enjoy this one as well. If you are like me you will skip over bits that seem more like a history lesson than anything else. One gets strong indications from the Loving Cup as to how this series will conclude.
