About this listen

All highly profitable firms attract competitors, and only firms that are able to keep competition at bay will earn above-average profits for an extended period of time. An economic moat - or competitive advantage - allows a company to fend off competitors and earn sustainable excess economic profits.

In The Little Book That Builds Wealth, Pat Dorsey, the head of Morningstar's equity research team, outlines an effective approach to investing that includes economic moats and tells you how to apply this strategy to your own investment endeavors.

Divided into six comprehensive parts, this reliable resource guides you step by step down the path to understanding and discovering what an economic moat is, how to measure it against other moats, and how to best select a company using this method. While the moat concept is not a new one - it was made famous by Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett - Dorsey discusses how the modern-day investor can use this strategy to select companies that possess a wide moat and feature good growth fundamentals as well as an attractive stock price.

With this audiobook as your guide, you will discover why moats should be an integral part of your analytical investment toolkit and learn how to leverage this approach to build a portfolio of high-performance stocks.

Great conceptual framework

The book provides a great conceptual framework in identifying moats, and finding businesses with predictable financials over long periods of time.

this is an exceptional book which jumps right in and covers the most important aspects of investing. each chapter provides many examples as well as quick reviews at the end of each chapter on the lessons.

A wealth of information!

Great book! Much more informative than I thought it would be. Massive amounts of valuable insight into companies that are tried and true. I would recommend this book to anyone who goes against what the crowd/masses are doing when it comes to investing into the stock market.

Good, but really needs updating

This book has a lot of common sense advice, but was written before the market crash in 2008. Some of the examples are seriously outdated (but demonstrate why there really are not that many investments you can hold indefinitely). The other negative is the narrator, who has a "Gee whiz, Mr. Wizard!" attitude that I found a bit irritating, at least after the first hour. There were a couple of pretty obvious mispronunciations as well. I doubt the narrator watches CNBC.

Excellent, concise book

Pretty good as a first or second book on investing. Concise. There are other ways to invest successfully, but Dorsey’s general approach works and this book serves as a good introduction to it.

Great book on moats and investing, valuation

I'm 6 months into my value investing journey and have finished many books on value investing, self-taught and this book has helped me tremendously.
I will listen to it again to make sure I remember everything Pat taught in this book
