Publisher's summary

My son said he walked his girlfriend home. But now she is missing....

Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again; to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbors, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son, Jacob, and his new girlfriend, Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes....

The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone. Rose never returned after our party.

I wake my still-sleeping son, who walked Rose home the night before, and beg him for answers. Jacob promises he saw Rose to her front door, and I know he would never lie.

But when the police find Rose’s house keys hidden in our garden and a witness claims to have seen them arguing in the street, everyone insists I can’t believe what Jacob is telling me.

I will do anything to protect my boy. But I need to find a way to make the questions stop. Because there’s something about our family that nobody can ever know. And as the search for Rose closes in, how can I keep him safe and keep our secrets hidden?

A gripping and jaw-dropping thriller with twists to die for. If you love Lisa Jewell, K.L. Slater, and Jackie Kabler, you’ll love The Lie.

Not her best

I love the author. But she has been writing more books, more frequently and perhaps the quality is suffering as a result. You knew what had happened half way through the book, so the ending wasn't a surprise. The ending also felt abrupt and lacking any real feeling of satisfaction. I was waiting for the twist or the final piece to make me understand why I listened to the last half of it and it never really got there for me.

Heart stopping

Absolutely loved this listen. It gripped me from the beginning and held me till the end. I didn’t see that coming such a twist. The characters were well written and as a mother of a son I could feel her need of wanting to protect him at all cost. No mother wants to believe their children are guilty and in this case I could feel her struggle because nothing is as it seems and he doesn’t make it easy. But I could also feel the mother of the girls side as well. If something happened to my child I would want justice. My ratings for any listen is based on how the story grips me and whether I want to pause it for bed or even to do mundane daily things. This one I wanted to listen to straight through it was that good.

great read

you know it’s not him but then it has to be him, but then you think it’s not him because that would be a boring story line.. as always she writes a great book that keeps you so interested. Great read.

The Lie! One of the most captivating by Croft

I’ve acquired quite a collection of Kathryn Croft’s audiobooks and, as always, she brings us a perfectly crafted thriller. Narrative skills by Naomi Frederick go above and beyond. Searching for a missing teenager, Rose, “The Lie” had me hooked throughout and never let go. I can’t stress it enough. Grab this one! Never a dull moment, complete with an intricate and satisfying ending I never saw coming.{{{listen intently so you don’t miss anything}}} I’m not sure if it’s possible, but I’d be thrilled with Book #2 as I beg Croft to continue this eccentric ensemble with a series. Perhaps? Kathryn Croft and Naomi Frederick are precisely paired as they take us on a rollercoaster ride filled with tangled surprises in this complexellent suspenseful listen. Well worth my treasured credit. Recommended to the max! Again, I’m shrieking from my rooftop, Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!

What the Heck..!!!! Audible told who the killer was.!!

Okay audible… you owe me a book…!!…I could not BELIEVE you spoiled the murder mystery by “tagging “ the word husband in the genre bubbles at the bottom of the sample synopsis.!!
It doesn’t that a rocket scientist to figure out who the culprit was.!!
Idiots… have a care in future

The most predictable book ever

I love this author. I have read all of her books. This book is so predictable. Knew since the beginning what was happening. Didn’t like it at all.

Huge Disappointment

We all have a choice in what we read/listen to. Had I known I was going to listen to a story about a pedophile who then **Spoiler Alert** has sex with the child’s mother after the child’s death, this would definitely have been an easy pass for me. Besides that it felt so predictable it seemed like I had read something similar without the statuary abuse. All in poor taste.

Boring

One of my favorite authors. But I'll never get the hours back I wasted on this book.
