Reseñas editoriales

Many authors, from Geoffrey of Monmouth in the 12th century through the romantics and up to current times, have interpreted the King Arthur story, mixing mythologies and legends with history, religion, and magic. Here is Sir James Knowles’ 1860 take on Arthur. Knowles, living during the Victorian revival of Arthur, gives a story of nobility and gallantry. Arthur appears in his classic adventures and battles emphasizing the concept of Arthur as an English origin myth. Not, perhaps, the most remarkably written entry in the world of Arthur, this volume makes up for lack of style with action and heroism. Eric Brooks has fun with his performance in this audiobook, creating colorful characterizations and exaggerating the drama almost to the point of playful caricature.

Language and terms are tough to follow at times and require a dictionary at hand while reading. The legend is one that should be well known and read because classics are cherished by many avid readers.

Heavy attention required for Arthurian Legend

This is an interesting collection of battles. The wording is a bit outdated, but I feel it sets the mood appropriately. Anyone who is expecting this to be like any current day writings or film may be disappointed by the style or find it difficult to digest.

Tales of knights and fights

The narration was excellent. They language used was charmingly amusing but I like the show Merlin better 😂

Not sure what I expected...

What did you like best about The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights? What did you like least?

Plot is often tedious

Did Eric Brooks do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He was fine. The characters were lacking in differentiation

Any additional comments?

It is interesting how violent children's books of a previous era could be. I'm sure this was used to teach bravery to the young, but what a bizarre, random world of violence it portrays. "Ah, yonder knight, whoever you are, let's fight to the death for no reason whatsoever." This could be subtitled: "Arthur and His Terminators"

Lots of chopped off heads

This is the best version of King Arther and the knights. You won't regret reading it.

Excellent

I’ve enjoyed every moment of this reading. They’re not right to did an outstanding job portrayed in the different characters. I could only wish they met a movie about this. I couldn’t put it down. I recommend this to all history, buffs, and old English in particular. Long live sir Lancelot.

Beautiful narration of a great old story

I like the story, but there are many things they could improve on especially the narration. I like everything else though.

It’s ok, definitely room for improvement

Why so much hate? This is the oldest and most accurate compilation known to England!

Decent reading of the classic version

The value is in the historical context of when it is written. As a story, it gets old. There is good that can be pulled from it, but I think there are more modern texts that do so better. The book can help with understanding the thoughts and morals of the time it is written and that is it's real worth.

Historical worth

A seemingly historically early version of the Arthur tales. Details are sparse, and knights go out and challenge each other to fight - - sometimes just to prove who's the mightiest. Lots of blood and cleft helms.

The language is a little off-putting to me. It is not hard to understand, but you're never able to immerse in the story and forget you're listening to a narrative.

Frankly, I think The Once and Future King by T. H. White is a better book. Nevertheless, this one did draw me on to see what would happen next.

Good to hear the storys
