About this listen

A woman disappears into the dark city night....

Gen is on the verge of a divorce from her cheating husband. When her sister, Meg, has a convention to attend in the Big Apple, she invites Gen along to celebrate her newly found freedom. But the perfect sisters’ getaway quickly goes awry when a tipsy Gen defiantly throws her wedding ring off the hotel room’s balcony. Then, wanting some fresh air, she decides to take a late-evening walk alone and vanishes without a trace.

The investigation that follows uncovers secrets - and betrayals - between sisters and spouses that will twist the truth in on itself until nothing is clear.

What really happened to Gen and who, besides Meg, was the last to see her?

story was nothing out of the ordinary.

Foul language. Books need to be rated just like movies. Don't waste a credit. Vicky J

So and so’s “head snapped up”

If I never hear “snapped up” again, it’ll be too soon. I was taken aback at how many times the phrase kept being used. Especially because I can’t imagine someone’s head really “snapping up” in most of the contexts in which it was written. Other than that, it was a good story.

YES YES YES 🙌

WOOHOO! After so many recent duds, THIS is my perfect listen. Vivienne Leheny’s narration is like candy in my ears. I love everything she does.

The story was somewhat predictable, but in a gradual, Intentional way. Tate was masterful at including something for everyone... suspense, mystery, romance, depth and light humor. Worth the credit!

Melodramatic and repetitive

It was ok at best. Fairly repetitive and a bit dramatic for my taste. The twist was fairly predictable.

So sad

Almost believable . I wish it did not have to end the way it did. Will Jen come back in another book. So sorry that Meg and Joe split up!

Too Many Mercurials! Detective has One Case?

How many times can a writer use the word, mercurial? We know, Gen was mercurial. You made your point. If I had a quarter for each occurrence, I'd be rich!

Totally unbelievable story. The characters are ludicrous, but that's this genre after all. Sure, Meg was a surgeon, graduated top of her class, head cheerleader, point guard in basketball, gorgeous, over-achiever, over-achiever, over-achiever. Pleeeeeze! She was really just a horn dog in the end, wasn't she? Did not like that character.

Detective only has one case? No other cases are demanding his time? He HAS to know the details of all the romantic entanglements in order to solve the case? "Meg, do you still love your husband?" Sure, okay.

It was never made clear what Gen's mental illness was? Why was she "different"? She didn't seem to be early on; this description seemed to only pop up at the end of the story. Maybe I just didn't pick up on it.

Regardless of the obvious incongruities, I actually enjoyed the story. Not too heavy or creepy. A light, engaging listen. Got through it over a couple of days. There were a few decent twists.

I thought the narrator did a good job.
