Acerca de esta escucha

James Machie was a man with a genius for violence, his criminal empire spreading beyond Glasgow into the UK and mainland Europe. Fortunately, James Machie is dead, assassinated in the back of a prison ambulance following his trial and conviction. But now, five years later, he is apparently back from the grave, set on avenging himself on those who brought him down. Top of his list is his previous associate, Frank MacDougall, who unbeknownst to D.C.I. Jim Daley, is living under protection on his lochside patch, the small Scottish town of Kinloch. Daley knows that, having been the key to Machie's conviction, his old friend and colleague D.S. Scott is almost as big a target. Nothing, not even death, has ever stood in James Machie's way.

The narrator was dreadful. His Scottish accents were awful. His pronunciation of names and place names were laughable. Macleod and Oban, to name a few.

Excellent writing.

A couple of minor gaps in the story (would require spoilers to reveal) but overall quite enjoyable. I wish there were more of Meyrick available on Audible. I'd get them all, particularly with this narrator.

Great

The narrator way overplays the drama. It sounds as if he thinks he’s auditioning for Hamlet. Some parts of the story seem far-fetched, and at least once incident is pretty disconnected - the part about the wife falling on the hill. But it’s a reasonably good way to pass some time.

Reasonably well-constructed story, overly dramatic narration

Non stop action/mystery..hope there is a sequel. Kind of left me wondering at the end. Very descriptive, sometimes I was lost in the story as though I was just around the corner. A great read.

OMG

Story is excellent but the narrator has no idea how scots speak. He made them sound either as though they could not string a sentence together or they were Irish May not matter to most people but as a native scot he was making my ears bleed

Narrator

Goofy plot plus below average reader predictable.

Plus he commits the gravest of sins... he le@ves The reader hanging instead of closing out the story. Lost me, permanently.

I choose what I want to read in a series, not the author!

Book 2, fairly crummy

Again the heavy accents were a struggle from time to time. But the story was good enough, the characters engaging enough and the scenery interesting enough that I am getting the next installment.

Good enough to be going on with
