Acerca de esta escucha

Quickly becoming a cornerstone of Holocaust historiography, this is a devastatingly stark memoir from one of the lone survivors of Treblinka.

Why do some live while so many others perish? Tiny children, old men, beautiful girls - in the gas chambers of Treblinka, all are equal. The Nazis kept the fires of Treblinka burning night and day, a central cog in the wheel of the Final Solution.

In the tradition of Elie Wiesel's Night and Primo Levi's Survival in Auschwitz and The Drowned and the Saved, Rajchman provides the only survivors' record of Treblinka. Originally written in Yiddish in 1945 without hope or agenda other than to bear witness, Rajchman's account shows that sometimes the bravest and most painful act of all is to remember.

I'm glad I heard this. I visited Auschwitz in Nov 2017. It is shocking that some people try to deny these things happened. It is shocking to hear how many people participated in the atrocities. But sadly today in America so many hold similar ideologies, for example, about their ideas of public health being more important than individual freedom. Many people today believe, like the Nazis, in survival of the fittest. It matters that we know the ways each of us could hold beliefs that coincide with the violators of the freedom of others. This would be the best we can do, learning of these atrocities, be firm we will in NO way participate in harming the freedom of others, and will not carry any of their beliefs at all, because they lead to suffering.

Important. Worse conditions than I expected.

It really is an amazing story or survival and tenacity. I do have a question tho without giving stuff away..
Did anyone else survive (aside from yourself) out of the people that participated in the final event?
Thank u for sharing your story

if one man can carry this burden to testify of the deaths of millions i can at least read what happened and pass it on. very moving, rapid paced and extremely well narrated

a must know story

Terrifying in it's simplicity and matter-of-factness. These days it would surely be banned in certain quarters. The truth bears telling no matter how distasteful; students should study this book in high school and college.

Terrific reader/actor/book.

I bought this audible a long time ago and started it, but then stopped listening until now.
It may have been the narrator.
He’s got a deep voice which is fine, but he speaks very formally.
I finished it this time and am glad I did.
I thought I had read, listened to, and watched everything there was about holocaust survivors, but I was wrong.
I didn’t think I could be anymore shocked and saddened than I already was, but this survivor from Treblinca had to endure much more than I was prepared for.
To escape and journey to Warsaw and live for over a year before liberation could have easily been another book.
I’m going to have to Google him for more info
Not nearly enough
Definitely worth the listen

Shocking

Humans are capable of such appalling atrocities that there is absolutely nothing that can compare to the cruelty that human beings are capable of inflicting upon each other. The catastrophe of the tragedy is that humanity has learned no lessons from the past.

Shame and heartbreak

What happened in this book is beyond my comprehension by thousands of miles. The horrors related cannot even be remotely pictured. The depravity described seems like it should be impossible for a human being to be able to do to any living being, and yet it was done with glee by the murderers. The Hell he was forced to live in makes any terror movie or novel pale by comparison. I am glad I listened to it, but I am sick and revolted as well.

At a loss for words

He was very brave to fight to live so he could tell and verify to the world that this really happened.

Sad but true story
