About this listen

In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

The Last Centurion is a memoir of one possible future, a world that is a darkling mirror of our own. Written "blog-style", it pulls no punches in its descriptions of junk science, bad strategy, and organic farming.

Critic reviews

"Dan John Miller’s delivery is perfect for this no-punches-pulled first-person narrative by Bandit Six, the Last Centurion. Laced with crude language and dark images of the future, Miller’s reading is straightforward and army tough." (AudioFile Magazine)

"Ringo excels in the depiction of combat, managing to capture the carnage and horror while maintaining a sense of the absurd....with the unexpected twists that Ringo has made his hallmark." (Publishers Weekly)

Engaging Military Narrative • Authentic Military Protagonist • Prophetic Pandemic Scenario • Detailed Logistical Operations

The main character was a warrior farmer a strong echo of Cincinaticus a hero of the Roman Empire. The plot of book took a lot of swipes at price control, organic farming, female presidents, global warming and even an argument that a military coup might not be so bad. The author has a very strong historical background and made some really good arguments based on historical facts. This is really a great book and it will make the reader stop and think about the current world situation. Of course you must remember that the book is fictional entertainment.

Any book that can make liberals screech like this is a must have for anyone looking for a realistic view of the country or planet during a crisis like this. I never tire of seeing liberals heads explode.

What made the experience of listening to The Last Centurion the most enjoyable?

The narrator does and amazing job delivering the authors words in a spectacular fashion.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the "wife's" occasional perspective. The story is told in a "blog" style, in a very creative way.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No it was more a story of what could be.

Any additional comments?

The author opened my eyes to the concept of a "trust society", which is so true, yet something I had never considered.

Right wing fantasy, great what if, with a compelling reasons for the actions of all the soldiers and participants.

This is a very well researched, very well thought out, and very well written book. Ok, it does drag at times...but the main character even acknowledges and apologizes for it and turns it into sort of a joke. Scary real stuff. Excellent book.

Excellent

This book was excellent. IT is more or less a diary of a soldier ten years into the future after a flu pandemic and the global aftermath. The breakdown of civilization in much of the world etc. I got it on a whim and had no idea what to expect. The narrator matched up perfectly with this interesting and unfortunately plausible vision of the future. The writer has a point of view to be sure, but I don't think it would get in the way of anyone's enjoying the book. I am going to check out more works by this author, previously unknown to me.

Great narrator, excellent story
