About this listen

Containers are revolutionizing the way we build, ship, and run our applications. But like all good things, they come with their own set of challenges. This is where Kubernetes enters the scene.

Kubernetes helps you deploy and manage containerized applications at scale. It also abstracts the many different underlying cloud platforms so that you don't need to care whether you're deploying on Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or your own on-premises datacenter. With Kubernetes, you can develop your applications on your laptop, deploy to your chosen cloud platform, migrate to a different cloud platform, and even migrate to your private cloud at your on-premises datacenter.

This audio version of The Kubernetes Book starts from the beginning and covers everything you need to know to be proficient with Kubernetes. It even includes two sections dedicated to threat-modeling Kubernetes and real-world security.

You'll learn:

  • Kubernetes cluster architecture
  • How to build Kubernetes Clusters
  • How to deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes
  • How to secure Kubernetes
  • The meaning of terms like cloud-native, microservices, desired state, containerized, and more...

Gentle humor and practicality about the format

Technical books are obviously difficult to make useful in the audiobook format, yet Nigel Poulton really hits this one out of the park. he knows exactly when to read you a little bit of yaml configuration and when to just skip it and refer you to a repo on the web so that your eyes don't glaze over. He handles the issues of the format with self-deprecating humor and good grace and I was able to learn an enormous amount about recent improvements in Kubernetes while cleaning the entire house.

Great audio rendition of a technical subject

Nigel Poulton has great energy and truly embodies the essence of teaching. His expertise in the field and extensive experience in container technologies makes him a trustworthy source. This was such a fun and easy audiobook to listen to. I highly suggest it to anyone interested in learning on the go.

Do technical books translate into Audible format?

Surprisingly yes! Well laid out and narrated. Great format for the daily drive to work.

The best K8s out there

This is one of, if not the best, technical audio books I’ve ever listened to. I just purchased the kindle version so that I can mull on some of the topics further.

perferct primer

This book is for beginners. If you have been developing containerised apps for a while - you will find nothing new. However, if you are new to the topic - this book is a great place to start. It covers most important aspects, explains them without jargon and provides well rounded high level overview.

Tech book in audio format?

I was super skeptical buying this audiobook, because a technical training book in audio format is usually spectacularly bad. This wasn’t. I used this as a supplement to my other k8s training, just so I can think about concepts when driving/walking/folding laundry. Great resource. I’ll probably have to re-listen to the security chapters though. I’m doing Nigel’s k8s deep dive course on ACG now, and am enjoying that as well.

Excellent k8s audio book

Excellent book. Great voice delivery
But it is better you have some background in k8s, since this is audio book.

I used this book while going for a walk.

This should be presented as a case study!

Nigel! Well done, Initially I was very sceptical about whether this bing be worth my while... Your audio book could be presented as a case study on how to make a technical book really work well as an audio book. I appreciate the thought that you have given this. I was driving as I listened and I could "see" the concepts in my mind.

I would like to have a PDF with the diagrams and a Table of Content for later reference. You should also include links to the repos and other resources you reference in the book as part of the PDF. This is a small issue but it very negatively affects the user experience.
