About this listen

Inishean Lighthouse stands as a beacon to seafarers on the western edge of Ireland. This tale will cross the centuries as two men take their place as the keepers of the light.

In the mid-nineteenth century, Ciarán McCrohan moves to the small remote island of Inishean to take over the position of lighthouse keeper. But there is one catch: he needs a wife. On the edge of Europe, shielded from the potato blight and ensuing famine that rages in Ireland, two young people find refuge both in their small community and in each other.

Almost two centuries later, Josh O’Brien’s happy life in Ireland is threatened, despite the efforts of his new family. But there is someone who will stand above the others to secure his future. When his first assignment as a lighthouse technician takes him to an isolated island in County Kerry, a haunting history is revealed.

Something happened on this rocky spit of land. In order to set the island free, he must dive into the past and allow the lighthouse to tell its tale.

I’m wrecked!!!

I’ve waited - and relistened to all of the O’Brien tales 1-7-
And waited…
And today was the day!
And I’ve cried- shouted out loud- giggled- and I’m currently a puddle of emotion-
Thank you for your beautiful weaving of a beautiful family and their beautiful stories.
I felt this one so deeply because of the survival of parental abuse- and I am trying to heal right alongside Charlie and Josh and Anya and Aileen…
Thank you-

I have read them all!

I have read all the books from the O’Brien tails. Stacy Reynolds’ O’Brien tales caught my attention for multiple reasons. I’m a 63 year old East Coast American lawyer retired early for medical reasons resulting from stage 4 cancer in my 20s and 30s. I beat the cancer and am happily dealing with the resulting health issues in my 60s, but I never forgot the summer I spent in Northern Ireland in 1976, Bangor, to be exact, as part of an exchange group of high school students sent by a wonderful organization called Operation Friendship.

Stacey Reynolds‘ O’Brien tales have brought back all the things I loved about my summer in Ireland. It is a physically beautiful place. If you have never been, Ireland does look like the pictures you see on television. Stacey does not talk enough about the color green that always struck me about the physical beauty that is Ireland. It’s not an accident that Americans know Ireland for the color green.

In my travels to Ireland and then later in my life to England and France, I have been struck by the unique beauty of each country and the cultural identities of the people who live in these small and beautiful countries. I have traveled through most of America. Although our country has such distinct physical beauty associated with the different parts of our country, and the people who live there, it does not compare to the cultural identity inherent in small countries. And Stacey captures so well that love of country, the unique identity, and the closeness of the centuries old families that built Ireland.

This particular O’Brien tale is my favorite along with the one that is set in Brazil, and the one about Charlie and Tadgh. The emotional depth, character development, physical beauty learned about multiple countries, and plot details of those books is astonishing and is particularly compelling for anyone that has ever had emotional trauma, which is actually all of us.

The narrator of all of the O’Brien tales, Justine Eyre, literally takes you to all of the countries, places, characters, and times described. You feel like you are there and that you are inside the heads and hearts of the characters. If you have not yet listened to any of the O’Brien tales on audible but are intrigued, I emplore you to do so, and start with the first book. Thank you Stacey Reynolds and Justine Eyre.

Hoping that Series Continues...

Another Stacey Reynolds book that hit it out of the park. The bonus novella was a treat as well! Narration was excellent and I'm hoping that there are more books in the series.

Best so far

I think this might be the best of the series. Weaving the current time story with the 1845 one, and the parallels, was genius. The author manages to tell the stories of the characters starring in each new book, yet maintains the stories of the prior book stars. A lot of characters to keep track of, but she makes it fun.
