About this listen

What if wishes really did come true? What if you were a little girl who wanted nothing more than an imaginary friend with whom you could share all of your secrets? What if, when you grew up and moved away, your imaginary friend didn’t?

After inheriting a 400-year-old family estate from her aunt, Patrice Lafleur returns to her childhood home on the outskirts of Shreveport, Louisiana, to find that not much has changed. Of course, still waters run deep, and the long-forgotten memories lurking beneath the surface of Patrice’s childhood are there to greet her when she walks through the front door 20 years later.

The Journal is a story of magic and mystery, good versus evil, long-overdue redemption, unconditional love, and unspeakable horror. While some memories are best left forgotten, how can they be when the house itself remembers?

As Patrice’s memories come flooding back to her, she realizes that sometimes, things are different than they seem. Other times, they are exactly what they appear to be...evil.

Great blend of history and magic!

I loved how the author used history intertwined with the magic in the story. The narrator’s accents were intriguing and fun to listen to. I wish the book had been longer! Looking forward to listening to another book by this author!

Coming Home

Action-packed story of Patrice Lafleur coming back to her ancestral home after inheriting it and finding that her imaginary friend growing up is real and waiting for her, along with hundreds of antiques and historical and ancient artifacts. With the help of Liam, her boyfriend; Nadine, her imaginary friend growing up; and her ancestors' journal that explains about the magic in the family, she is able to differentiate between the good and evil spirits and save the town and her heritage. Ashley Gatti did an admirable job with the narration and accents.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

The Journal

This was good. I think it moved too fast for the story to be great. Narration by Ashley Gatti was good. I was not convinced by Liams accent. I was given this book free for an honest review.

Superb!

This amazing story is both historically and mystically accurate and compelling, yet while listening to Ashley Gatti's amazing narration, all one can say is SUPERB! Another excellent novel by Riano D. McFarland that I highly recommend.

Magic, Good and Evil

The author really did his due diligence when writing this book it is steeped in interesting and factual historical and mythical knowledge. I am definitely very impressed because it really brought the story to life and made it believable. Patrice had a hard life growing up and if it had not had been for her aunt who knows where she would have ended up. Her aunt had a duty and now that duty has been passed on to Patrice and with the help of her friends nothing is impossible or unimaginable. This story offers suspense, drama, paranormal deities, and a side of romance just to spice things up a little. I loved it all and became truly invested and entertained in the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves books about the paranormal, mythology and magic. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here of my own volition.

The Journal

This was an entertaining fantasy book, well-written and fast paced. Patrice Lafleur has returned to her childhood home after her Aunt Naomi's death. The 400 year old mansion outside Shreveport, Louisiana, holds many fond memories, but it also contains a forgotten childhood friend, Nadine. Patrice slowly starts to remember other events from her childhood and soon learns that she is now the gatekeeper of a portal to evil.

Patrice's boyfriend, Liam, arrives and together they discover many valuable artifacts that work to keep the evil at bay. But, will Patrice's power be enough to contain the demonic forces at work or will she or Liam pay the ultimate price for that safety?

The narrator did a good job, but I wasn't fond of her accent/voice for Liam. All in all, if you enjoy stories with supernatural events, demons, and a touch of romance, you will enjoy this book.
