About this listen

Rick Yancey won the Michael L. Printz Award for the stunning first entry in his Monstrumologist saga. In the series’ third entry, Will Henry is left behind as Dr. Warthrop and his eager new assistant Arkwright embark on a quest to find the “Holy Grail of Monstrumology.” But when Arkwright returns with news of the doctor’s demise, Will sets off on his own quest, to the Isle of Blood, to determine the truth.

Never disappointed

So many parts in this book that made me feel part of the action, like I was right by Will Henry and Dr. Warthrop in the battle. This is the third book I have completed of Rick Yancey's and I'm never disappointed with the endings. Highly recommend this book!!

So good

I have enjoyed every book in this series, and I think a large part of what makes them so great is the narrator. Steven does a phenomenal job telling the story with all his different voices. I truly feel as though there are different characters reading all their lines!

Mr. Boyer is the perfect reader for this.

The story is so overdramtic, but not so much in the way of HP Lovecraft's adjective spamming. the characters are very interesting, and you find yourself evaluating them, trying to figure them out, while the narrator toils with you. Steven Boyer plays every voice perfectly and it feels like there's a whole room of actors performing a play, rather than one man reading all the parts.
perfect combination. im collecting the whole series.

It keeps getting better.

Each continuation of this series never fails to reel me in with such curious intensity. I have never been bored with any of these books or even a single paragraph because there is never a lack of interest. Rick Yancey is superior at creating a tale that can and will hold you until you reach the final word. The trials these characters go through and the way it changes them- It's absolutely a work of art. I am completely enamored with this series.

And not once does Steven Boyer let up with the tone of this series. It is macabre and depressing and bleak and his performance will never let you forget it.

Best Fantasy that doesnt have a Wizard named Harry

Where does The Isle of Blood rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

Series wise, within the top three. Book wise in my top ten.

What did you like best about this story?

Character Development. This is part three of the ongoing Monsturmologist Series. The Author brings so much character development to the story it is shocking. Most series get boring once the characters are set, but the Monstrumologist Characters keep developing, becoming more complex, darker, and larger.

What does Steven Boyer bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent dramatic reading and characterization, and wonderfully done accents, Steven Boyer ranks among the best like Simon Prebble and Stephen Frye.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Although very long, I could easily listen to it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Don't get this unless you have Book 1 - The Monstrumologist and Book 2 - Curse of the Wendigo.

Another fantastics sequel

if you have made it this far, then clearly you believe the series is worth reading. more clearly, you will enjoy this sequel. Which is more of the same. Monsters, romance, Warthrop being abusive, and devious humans along with some pondering of the human condition.

Well worth the read.

It was okay not great but not bad.

What did you like best about The Isle of Blood? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the island of bats. I did not really care for the payoff it was kind of lackluster.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

"Ehhh... okay"

Which character – as performed by Steven Boyer – was your favorite?

Dr. Warthrop

Was The Isle of Blood worth the listening time?

I mean, yeah I listened to it at work, it was not bad, just not that great.

Any additional comments?

The series kind of lost me with this one. The reviews of the next book then sent me down a path finding out some things and where the story is / was going and I never even bothered with the next one. This was kind of a lackluster end to what I thought could have been a really fantastic series.
