Acerca de esta escucha

From acclaimed director and producer Kieth Merrill comes an epic, high fantasy saga and the quest to fulfill a prophecy.

A thousand years ago, the Navigator crossed the great deep in ships lit with 16 stones touched by Oum'ilah, the God of Gods. Over time the stones were scattered, and a prophecy arose declaring that a "child of no man" would gather them again, obtain immortality, and reign forever as god and king of Candelarr. Two religious groups have sprung up around the prophecy, each with its own champion.

The sorceress of the cult of she-dragon has chosen Drakkor, a warrior and mercenary. After surviving a series of rigorous tests to prove his worth, he is given one of the stones and begins his quest to fulfill the prophecy. He swears to return all 16 stones to the sorceress, but the truth is he will let nothing stop him from claiming immortality for himself.

The Oracle of Oum'ilah has placed his faith in Ashar, a young postulant studying the Way of the Navigator on the Mountain of God. But when Ashar discovers he is a direct descendant of the Navigator himself, the Oracle reveals that it is his destiny to fulfill the prophecy and reunite the 16 stones for good. But he must hurry before Drakkor claims the stones and corrupts them.

Meanwhile, miles away, a slave named Ereon Qhuin dreams of freedom. Abandoned at birth, his only possession is a strange stone that his mentor, the blacksmith Rusthammer, promises is the key to Qhuin's destiny and freedom.

A mercenary, a postulant, and a slave - which one is truly the child of prophecy?

this book hit all the right notes. the characters were 3 dimensional and I was engaged and invested the whole way through. I can't wait for the next book.

Great start to a new series

this book is OK but something about it just didn't engage me. I tried several times and at faster speeds but just didn't finish. .... I guess I just don't care about protagonist or other characters.....

I just can't get into this. ...

I was extremely happy with this book and Tim Gerald Reynolds as usual but it’s been years and no update about a second book in the series I have Checked online repeatedly and nothing so hope is lost

Slow but pulls you into the story

Religion is always one of those difficult topics to talk about. What makes it worse is stories where people replicate the failings of religion without any consideration or acknowledgement of the intimate righteous ideals that have kept such traditions alive for thousands of years. It gets old really fast.

Too much religion

This book is one of the best sweeping epic fantasies that I've ever read, that deals directly with the issue of religion. The only other book series i could possibly compare it to is the Storm-light Archive. This book has deep characterization, complex events, and a multiplicity of view points that create a deeply built world.

This is not some cheep sword and sorcery fantasy novel, this has the intellectual depth of Robert Jordan, with the realism of George RR Martin, and the world and character building of Brandon Sanderson. if you want to be entertained by being immersed in such a world, and take a journey with such characters, then this is the book for you. If you're looking for cheep thrills, sex jokes, and shallow characters with no other motivation then whats between their legs then look elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, the book doesn't shy away from the darker more realistic aspects of fantasy. The author does it in such away however that you as a reader don't feel disgusting after reading. Disgusted by the barbarism, hedonism, or evil sure, but not in a way that you feel complicit in it (George RR i'm looking at you here....).

Honestly, one of the best books i have ever read. I'm just pissed that the author hasn't come out with the second one yet.

Engaging and fulfilling. Painful cliffhanger.

This story has a very slow and tedious start. Main characters disappear for half the book and it's really nothing but back stories for 40ish chapters. It ends on an interesting note, but you need a lot of patience to get there.

Reynolds does a fantastic job, as always!

Sloooow and tedious beginning

This...was...fantastic!!! As you listen, you can imagine how big this series could be. The world and back story being prepared in this book is wonderful and enormous. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

This is not your typical young hero book where you watch the unknown boy grow into mysterious powers and defeat the dark empire. It is so much more than this. Well worth the time and credit to listen to this book.

Loved It...can't wait for the next book

Again I say, "Half the book was Character Introduction". Decent story, but like other popular series lots of characters and intermingling story lines. It is all connected and hopefully going to be woven together well in the next book. Not much going on in the way of fantasy except the magical immortal crown and divine intervention. I probably won't listen to the book again in the near future and could take or leave the next installment.

This story was excellent! I am very excited for the next installment. Kieth Merrill has a gift for weaving many stories into one epic tale of adventure, wizards, warriors and battles--but at the same time showing a simple and profound side to characters filled with hopes, dreams and love. Amazing character development. Gerard Reynolds is a master narrator!

Profoundly entertaining
