Acerca de esta escucha

I was a Hunter, and I honored the Code. For my services to humanity and for leading a "proper" life, I was to be rewarded. A new life after death, and a new world to give me some well-deserved rest.

But something went wrong. Once again, I must fight. The Monsters that face me here are far more terrifying than those of my past life. They are cleverer, crueler, more unpredictable. And their name is . . .

Really liked the story even if the MC couldn't go without mentioning his past life for even 5 minutes it was getting a little annoying

Good one

The narrator isn't the worst but he definitely has an almost Shatner like cadence which gets annoying. I'll be reading the next book myself when I find the time. Also not sure if it comes off worse because of the lackluster narrator, but the MC is an ass. Hopefully he changes his attitude a little as he progresses.

Mostly good!

Not much to say overall, it was a good book. It was a good start to series, and the writing was quite good. I do find the ending a bit of a letdown. I kind of dislike stories that feel they have to end on a cliffhanger in order to draw you into the next book .

Very entertaining, very funny great character development funny as heck and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat

The hunters code is an amazing opening start to a series

When getting your reward for your past life is a weak version of the last one, how do you make it better?

Great start for a new series! Gets you involved and ready for the next book!

I enjoy the world and character. I gave it a 4 because of the adult content

A fun progression hero story

It's a good start to a series just remember this is something that is set in russiansociety the mindset That the person is a male and so their thoughts on gender and sexuality he's very much a part of the story as well as money That the person is a male and so their thoughts on gender and sexuality he's very much a part of the story as well as money

A good setup going forward

I have more than a few titles, and this is the first time that 3 chapters of the narrator were enough to almost cancel my subscription.
listed to the preview a couple times to make sure you can stand the voice for that long.
Buyer beware!
my only real regret is paying money and not a credit so I can't return!

poor story basis and poor narrator

Okay so, let me start off by saying I've read like 8.5 books from three different series of this authors and I have enjoyed them all. That being said, I've noticed some things that have kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. At first I thought it was just the characters having flaws and being imperfect but over the course of the three different series I have to reconcile the fact that it is probably with the author that these issues lay and not the characters. There are several instances per book of sexism, misogyny, and underlying racial stereotyping. I truly want to believe that this is subconscious on the part of the author, but I can't say for sure; equally as troubling is the lack of recognition of these instances I've seen in reviews. It truly is hard to notice and easy to excuse at first, but after completing The Hunter's Code book 3, it's impossible to miss at this point. The series in reference/books I've completed are The Hunter's Code 1-3, The Healers Way 1-6, and The Order of Architects 1-2. I would say it is most prominent in the Hunter's Code and least prominent in The Order of Architects, and I am unsure if this has to due with the coauthors in particular. I think it's extra disappointing cause the books themselves are pretty good, the worlds are unique, the magic system is pretty well-balanced, and, for the most part, the characters are relatable and pretty interesting. Also it goes without saying (and even with) that the narrators all do an excellent job.

Kind of offensive, a little problematic

I nearly gave up on this book early on, due to the fact that the MC is an unmitigated @ss; but then i realized i was reading it wrong. ;)

He was raised, in this life, as the heir to an aristocratic family; but he tells the reader that couldn't overcome the speech and mannerisms of his previous rough-and-tumble lifestyle; He did however, take to heart all the lectures about how much better he is than everyone else, including "commoners", "peasants" and "servants" at one point he is rude to a waitress and says to himself something like "while i don't like talking to the servant class like that, as soon as you're nice to them, they take advantage of you." We're not told how old he was in his first life, other than being "much, much older" than his current 18 years; but his thoughts and actions are incredibly immature, much closer to that of an 18 year old brat than a theoretically battle-hardened veteran.

In summary, his is incredibly immature, selfish, arrogant, overbearing, horribly sexist, he is crude, a bully and a thief. As i said, a complete @ss.

It was at some point after his first spar with Helga, however, that i realized i had entirely misunderstood this book. This isn't an action/adventure with a complex MC, This is a campy B-Movie, with bad acting, bad costumes, and ...okay, the plot isn't terrible, if a bit convoluted.

With this mindset, i am now only disappointed that Xander has not - yet - grabbed Helga and demanded that she "Gimme Some Sugar, Baby"

Bruce Campbell, Monster Hunter
