About this listen

In the aftermath of the devastating 1864 War of the Triple Alliance, a team of British comrades launch an expedition across Paraguay to pinpoin and recover the buried war chest of General Lopez. Possibly based on a true story, and definately written by an 18th century explorer and naturalist who recounts firsthand Paraguay as seen in the late 1800s. Edited, annotated, and modernized by treasure hunter Otto Von Helsing to bring this charming novel up to current standards of quality. A lost gem brought back from 1887.

awful pronunciation

having visited Paraguay most years for the last 20, it was great to find this book covering the post Triple Alliance war in such an interesting way. The narrator is just killed me and butchering the pronunciation of words in Guarani, and even the word Guarani. The emphasis on the syllables shows that the narrator has never heard the words pronounced. give me a call and I can read it for you. the guy has an ok reading voice, but does not know a coati from a ñandu.

Interesting period but not written so well

I've bought this book as the triple alliance war and Paraguay fate following this war interested me greatly and I hoped to get a sense of the way Paraguay was after it lost almost all of its male population. The book does not give much data regarding this, unfortunately. It is not as exciting as you would expect from a treasure hunt book as well. The book is fun to listen to at times as it does give a sense traveler expirience during that time and the old British politeness and coldness. The end of the book was confusing for me, I must admit.
All and all, nice book but not much more than that.
