About this listen
The audiobook edition of a rare story David Morrell wrote to give to his friends at Christmas is finally available. Featuring a foreword by the author, this is a novella that has different meanings, depending if you're a child or an adult. It's about the poignant friendship between Father Christmas, who lives a hundred years before being replaced, and Father Time, who lives only a single year before being replaced. Each year, Santa sees a version of his friend grow old and die. Now it's Santa's turn, but he's having trouble finding a replacement, and if he doesn't succeed, there'll be no one to take care of the infant Father Time, and time itself will stop.

Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

Story
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Pretty Good
Lowkey was caught off guard by the long foreword, but listening to it all was well worth it to get the backstory of the story and what went in to bringing it about. Highly recommend listening to the full foreword if this your first time listening to this audiobook.
Overall I highly recommend this book.
As for the actual story, I really enjoyed this story. I really liked the way the 'Santa' role is passed down and his friendship with Father Time. I also love the interactions between the father telling the story and his children, Mr. Moogan did a great job conveying the conversation.
I also liked the imagery of Father Time and Santa walking up the hill. Was really well done and engaging, and further enhanced by Mr. Moogan's narration.

A Short and Sweet Little Story
A nice little fireside tale about Santa Clause, Father Time, and the importance of responsibility. Learn through the whimsical writings of David Morell and the soothing voice of Owen Morgan why Christmas is not just the time for receiving but giving as well.
Fair warning, The foreword in of itself is around 20 minutes long. don't miss it if you want to learn more about why the story was made and what was behind it's making.
I do recommend this Christmas tale for those gatherings with family and friends. A nice cup of milk and a warm blanket to snuggle is also recommended when listening to this!

Great Christmas mesage
Without giving anything away, it is a great secular Christmas message. For those who are fine with that, sit down by the fire, have a glass of bourbon, and get ready for all the feels.

Great 'By The Fire' Story
Admittedly I wasn't expecting for the introduction to be long, but I think it adds a nice context going into the narrative. Morrell conjures a charming little story world full of lessons and sweet interactions between Father Time and Santa. Their vulnerability, respect, and trust is very heartwarming to hear, such as when they kiss one another's cheeks when bidding Father Time farewell the first time. I also love the sunset imagery. In that particular moment, the visualization of turning crimson to pink to an ominous dark color adds a nice touch of symbolism.
It's a nice listen for kids to show them the importance of responsibility and benevolence, while conversely showcasing the repercussions of an increasingly nihilistic and selfish modernity. Yet, it's also nice for adults as well to resurface a sense of hope and optimism in an increasingly tough world. Would recommend highly!

May make this a tradition
It has a spoken message, but I felt the deeper message was unspoken and left to the reader to glean. Religious or not, I feel this story will appeal to all types of folks, the older the better.
Narration was just right.

New Christmas Tradition, from the author of Rambo!
From the author of Rambo: First Blood….comes a heartwarming story of Santa that David Morell wrote for his kids. This will definitely become a Christmas tradition listen. Wonderfully narrated by Owen Moogan and presented by Encyclopocalypse Publications.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is another great listen for the family. Would recommend listening during your down time or during a small task that doesn’t need your full attention. The story has some great beats and a good overall message.

MAKE IT A TRADITION
THE HUNDRED-YEAR CHRISTMAS is a stand-alone short holiday fantasy story.
The forward is about 1/3 of the 55 minutes of the recording. Don’t skip it (at least the first time you listen to it); it’s worth knowing the background of this story.
This is a story that reminds us (once again) that Christmas is more about giving than receiving, that the love should be embodied all year round, and that Christmas and New Year are more than days on the calendar.
I intend to make this an annual listen.
Narration: The narrator, Owen Moogan, does a superb job of presenting the story. He brings the magic of Christmas and Santa’s dilemma to life.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via freeaudiobookpromocodes, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
