About this listen
The Holy Psalter contains the Psalms and other scriptural Odes that are used throughout the Orthodox Church's liturgical life. It uses the Greek Septuagint ("LXX") Old Testament, the scripture used by the Apostles and the early Christians, and by the Orthodox Church today.
Designed for both private and liturgical use, The Holy Psalter is divided into the 20 traditional Kathisma divisions, which arrange the weekly readings of the Psalms. It also includes the nine Biblical Odes which are traditionally sung at Matins each morning; together with the Eclogarion, selected Psalm verses that are sung on feast days throughout the year.
What makes the Saint Ignatius Orthodox Press Holy Psalter truly unique is the inclusion of the hymns and prayers of the "Cell Prayer Rule" after each Kathisma division. Translated into English for the first time, this material from the historic manuscripts of Pantokratoros Monastery on Mount Athos transforms the Book of Psalms into a true prayer book, as it is used especially in small monasteries (sketes) in the Athonite tradition.
Readers of our other titles will appreciate the similar translation style, completing the cohesive, prayerful feel of the entire Saint Ignatius Orthodox Press scriptural collection. Nearly ten years in the making, this liturgical translation of the Psalter is the result of a collaborative effort between translators, editors, scholars, church musicians, and the communities of St Vladimir's Seminary and St Tikhon's Monastery. The goal for this project was to find translational register that was both accurate to the original and, at the same time, felt familiar within the liturgical context in which it would be read and sung.

Very nice version of the Holy Psalter
This version of the Psalter is chanted and has the various prayers and divisions between the Stasis and Kathismas; very worshipful and so nice to have a good option when I don't get to sit down and read them myself. Beautiful listening experience.

Excellent recording for spiritual meditation
This is a very well produced recording of an English language ascetical intoned reading including choir chanting in some refrains between psalms. This recording is very good for Christian Orthodox traditional spiritual meditation and prayer. It is a deep breath of fresh air for the body, soul, and spirit.

Holy Chant.
I own the book and the digital download. I was delighted to see this on Audible as it is easier to navigate than the download. I chant the psalms myself as often as I can and adopt the rhythm presented here. I find the end of Kathisma prayers to be very edifying. The book is always with me and now also the Audible. Thankyou St Ignatius Orthodox Press.

Really well done
I will listen to this often. My only criticism is the version of the Trisagion is different than most parishes use, ie. "Strong" instead of "Mighty" and the "Our Father" is different also. This puts a small blemish on an otherwise beautiful work.
