About this listen

The Fourth Reich is waiting to be born. The only man who can stop it is about to sign its birth certificate. In 1945 the children of the Third Reich were secretly hidden all over the world - to be concealed until the 1970s, when they would come of age. Then the most elaborate plans and $780 million in a Swiss bank would be waiting. There would even be an unsuspecting outsider to set the plan into action. That outsider is Noel Holcroft, the American son of a high-ranking Nazi. He's just been shown an amazing document, the Holcroft Covenant. If he signs, it will be his own death warrant and a devastating threat to the security of the world.

Critic reviews

"Pleases and seduces.... Mr. Ludlum stuffs more surprises into his novels than any other six-pack of thriller writers combined.... I sprained my wrist tuming his pages and didn't notice until an hour later." (John Leonard, The New York Times)

Great Read

The story is implausible but it is possible, yetthat is not the only reason to read. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and presumed friends turn out to be enemies. It is very intriguing and a 70's international thriller. I enjoyed it very much and I recommend a download if you like mystery, WW2 stories, or international thrillers. The only think I didn't like was some of the dialogue for Holcroft. It was too simple like his answers were "What","Are you Crazy" I think the author could have put more debt in the Holcroft character.
Go for it.

Great story, inconclusive ending

As always, Ludlum write international intrigue on a level all his own. However, the ending completely leaves out what happens w/ the catalyst of the story.

Never ending

Slow and plodding. Main character seems fairly weak for most of the book. much of it seems like a first novel for the author.

Ending was “OK”

The story is very long and can become very confusing, but it does all tie together. Not the most exciting book, but lots of espionage. Overall it’s a good listen and Shapiro is the best. The ending could have been more conclusive, it leaves some to be desired. Overall not dissatisfied, but could have been better.

What a barn burner!

I read this book back in ‘78 - it was good then and holy cow it’s great now ... be prepared to listen in 2 to 3 sessions - fast paced, action packed
