About this listen

If you could travel back to the world of ancient Palestine and hear Jesus teach in his own native tongue, what would you learn? Join Neil Douglas-Klotz, the brilliant translator and best selling author of Prayers of the Cosmos, as he delves into early New Testament scriptures written in Aramaic - the original language of Jesus and his followers. Overlooked for centuries by all but a small minority of the world's Christians, these sacred texts rejuvenate the teachings of Jesus with an original subtlety and richness of meaning found in no other translation. Douglas-Klotz draws us deeply into these passages of the Gospels - including the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer - and then adds to his passionate scholarship by teaching us a series of body-centered meditations for interpreting and reflecting on these sacred words in much the same way as the early Christians did. What lies hidden within these scriptures may surprise many: a visionary Christ who transcends the narrow and the dogmatic to offer us a grand cosmology based on the earthy wisdom of an ancient desert people.©1999 Neil Douglas-Klotz (P)1999 Sounds True Christology Ministry & Evangelism New Testament Spirituality Aramaic Bible

great workshop

I deeply enjoyed this workshop. Having attended some by other Aramaic scholars, Klotz' work is credible and enlightening. Since it is more of a workshop than a book, some parts are not appropriate for car listening, so be aware of that.

The First Step

I found this book to be the first step in bring Christain thinking into this time. It led me on to the path of understanding that what happen in the time of Jesus is still happening today. That the kingdom of God, Jesus spoke about isn't coming but is here and now if you would but seek. Giving insides into other traditions of teaching granting new meanings to old text for me, I found dry. At first I found it strange and too new age for me then I wonder if what I call new age was actually more old age. A time before the church was a church. Taking it's thinking with Gospel of John and Gospel of Thomas, I came to a new understanding for me when Jesus said "No one can point and say it's here or it's there for the Kingdom of God is inside you."

Top notch scholarship, off-putting meditations

This is a purely subjective review. The music was really off-putting. I was intrigued by the interpretations of Aramaic and there are some real gems in this book. For me it was better to just hit fast forward on the musical chants.

Douglas-Klotz: Hidden Gospel (Audible) - inspiring

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - Hidden Gospel is presented by the author which lends sincerity and conviction to his inspiring message. Neil Douglas-Klotz is obviously very familiar with Aramaic and other Semitic languages, and his sensitivity to the message of the mystic Jesus allows a gospel of hope, truth and openness to be delivered with a freshness and power that has been obscured for millenia!

What other book might you compare The Hidden Gospel to and why?

Neil Douglas-Klotz's message is fairly unique, and I can compare this book only to Prayers of the Cosmos, by the same author.

Which scene was your favorite?

Jesus's Beatitudes take on powerful significance when the Aramaic original is considered. My favourite is the significance of the third beatitude (

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A particularly moving section was the chant which combines the names of GOD in Arabic, Aramaic and Hebrew, representing a move to peace and tolerance in the Middle East, and the

Making sense...

Neil narrates his books better than anyone else can. His journey of the discovery of his beliefs is fascinating and similar to many, I suspect. He makes the words of Jesus finally make sense.

A very good listen and performance

It was a good explanation of how all translations of the scriptures that we are being taught today are far from the actual meaning of the original aramaic written text.
