About this listen

When having to decide between spending her afterlife in hell or as the Grim Reaper's Lawyer, it's not even a hard choice for Joyce Parker. Of course she'd choose hell.

Joyce thought her prayers were finally answered when her client killed her. Yes, she knows, it's morbid. But, so is being a lawyer. Now dead, Joyce thought it was blue skies, angel wings, mimosas, and Jesus. Well, she was embarrassingly wrong. The insufferable, but good-looking Grim Reaper needs a favor. He needs her to represent him in the newly formed Reaper's Court. That is, of course, if she wants to go to heaven rather than to hell, which is exactly where she was heading.

What starts off as a favor turns into a whirlwind of chaos with Joyce and the Grim Reaper being in the center of it all. Not only does Joyce have to help the grumpy Reaper, but she also has to save the whole Afterworld-a job she most definitely did not sign up for. Joyce's life on earth was boring, but her afterlife ends up being the most alive she's ever felt. Trials, secrets, evil reapers, missing souls, traitors, stolen mimosas, and unexpected romance-all the elements for one hell (literally) of a life after death.

Contains mature themes.

I love the characters, especially the main characters. They have a funny, but wonderful relationship. The other characters are a perfect mix to advance the plot.

Funny!

The narrator was the WORST part. Other than that, it’s predictable until the very last moment. With the narration and the predictability, this was hard to get through.

Predicable and boring

the narrator was not the best. took me about a chapters to get use to it but I still wished it was someone else the whole book.

Dear future readers, if you come across this audio before the book please know that the book itself is a 10 out of 10. One of my favorite constant re-reads. BUT this audio just did not hit the sweet spot for me. I was super excited when Author Mea announced she was getting TGRL audiobook(ed). Now don’t get me wrong I won’t say it’s horrible but the narrator just doesn’t have the tone or voice that i pictured for Joyce & Aiden. She didn’t channel the joyful, sassy, jokester that Joyce is and the confident cocky charismaticness of Aiden. Her voice almost came off like AI which totally ruined the A+ 🌶️spicy senes for me giving Aiden’s sexy talk a bit of a cringy vibe. But let me clarify when reading it it’s not cringy at all (it’s actually one of the books I go back to to put me in the “mood” 👀) I feel like this audio would have benefited from a duel narration although most of it is written from Joyce POV. To me the perfect narrator would have been if done only by a female: Hazel Addison. She does a perfect female/male contrast. Anyway 😞 I’m happy to see that Mea Monique book was audiobook(ed) and can’t wait for book 2.

Whyyyyyyyyy!

The concept of the book is different. It puts me in the mind of Amari and the night brothers. The narrator wasn’t the best . Maybe it would have been better if one of the greats had it. The overall story was just ok for me. The ending sucked . I wanted to take a chance because the preview wasn’t that bad. The narrator gets annoying after a few chapters. I would say pass because of the ending and the narrator . Not something I would recommend

I would say pass

Overall, I guess it would be a good book, but it's just not for me. i'm just glad I didn't use a credit for it.

Trying too hard

A little cheesy for me, but if you're into that then you'll love it. I did enjoy the diversity of the characters and the unique storyline.
