Acerca de esta escucha

Based on the epic novel by Nobel Laureate John Steinbeck. Set during the Great Depression, The Grapes of Wrath tells the powerful story of the Joad family’s trek from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to the promise of a new life in California. But what they find threatens to rip apart their lives, and sever the ties that bind them together. Starring Shirley Knight as Ma Joad, Frank Galati’s heart-wrenching adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel finds its timeless heart in the generous spirit of the common man.

A full-cast production featuring: Shirley Knight, Jeffrey Donovan, Emily Bergl, Mike Buie, Daniel Chacon, Maurice Chasse, Shannon Cochran, Trista Delamere, Francis Guinan, Charlie Matthes, Rod McLachlan, Bob Pescovitz,Joel Rafael, Stephen Ramsey, Nick Sadler, Andy Taylor, Todd Waring, Fredd Wayne, Michael Weston, and Kate Williamson, with live music performed by the Joel Rafael Band.

We are living in our own "dust bowl" at this moment. As I was listening, I thought of how people today were dealing with hardship through no fault of their own. This audio book makes me want to reread the novel.

Still Important

Easy to follow (once you get the rhythm) and very worth hearing of you haven’t read the novel

Easy to follow classic!

The dramatization was good but it is only 2 hours long. And now I have to use at least 15 words. Audible will sell you a short presentation but demand a long review.

Not a good buy for one credit.

Very well done overall. A few places are hard to follow, just listening and not seeing the play at the same time. Still, it's worth a listen.

Good Program

John Steinbeck's finest. A classic work that tells the important story about what it means to be human. Read it again

I had read this book in eighth grade and now with new interest in refugees and migrants, I decided to revisit it. This is a great story and the dramatization in this audiobook is fantastic. I felt like I was there the whole time

Gripping story.

It felt like something I would listen to on MPR. I found the whole performance very engaging.

I was on a long car ride

Where does The Grapes of Wrath (Dramatized) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was so good! There were many recognizable voices to represent each character. This family struggled so hard to survive and went through so many trials and tribulations. I'm not sure I would have been able to get through the book had I read it, but listening to this soundtrack kept it interesting. This was my first time listening to this classic and I was shocked by the ending.

Sad and Beautiful

What did you like best about The Grapes of Wrath (Dramatized)? What did you like least?

The cast of characters to play the roles of the principles in the book, the Job family did a very good job with the dialog and it was very good.

What did you like best about this story?

The story of the family hardships was well described and pretty much followed the book.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scenes in the camps were the best.

Do you think The Grapes of Wrath (Dramatized) needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not really. Besides those times are past and Steinbeck is no longer with us.

Any additional comments?

I think this audio version was a little bit too short, and maybe I should have chosen one that was a little more fleshed out with more detail in the story.

Mostly Average...
