About this listen

In the tradition of Wait Till Helen Comes, another truly chilling (and historically inspired) ghost story from the talentedauthor of The Forgotten Girl.

Celeste knows she should be excited to spend two weeks at her grandparents' lake house with her brother, Owen, and theircousins Capri and Daisy, but she's not.Bugs, bad cell reception, and the dark waters of the lake... no thanks. On top of that, she just failed her swim test and hates beingin the water-it's terrifying. But her grandparents are strong believers in their family knowing how to swim, especially having grownup during a time of segregation at public pools. Without the opportunity to learn, Grandma's sister drowned when they were kids.

But soon strange things start happening, like Celeste's cousins accusing her of waking them up in the middle of the night. But Celeste hasn't been awake during the night-she knows she's been fast asleep because she's been having terrible nightmares about drowning!

Things at the old house only get spookier until one evening when Celeste looks in the steamy mirror after a shower and sees her face, but twisted, different...Who is the girl in the mirror? And what does she want?

Past and present mingle in this spine-tingling ghost story by India Hill Brown.

This was the perfect amount of scary. I loved how the reader read the book. I give the overall rating four stars because I had a feeling Great Aunt Ellie was trying to harm the family. Other than that, the story was amazing and everything made sense in the end. It had a great message, and I loved how Celeste, Owen, Daisy, and Capri worked together to solve the mysteries of the lake house.

Amazing story

This was definitely a five star rating. My kid loves horror stories but it also told her about all the horrible things that took place her in this world definitely a good one to read ❤️

I listened to the audiobook of The Girl in the Lake and I enjoyed it so much! The narrator was fantastic. Some scenes were incredibly creepy and made me break out in actual goosebumps. I'm sure kids will love this spooky story, too. I also appreciated how the author weaved actual history into the plot about how racism and segregation prevented Black families from learning how to swim and the impact of that over generations.

Just the Right Amount of Spooky!
