About this listen

RITA Award finalist and Christy Award winner Julie Klassen delivers historical romances brimming with the eloquence and intensity of Jane Austen. In an abandoned gatehouse on an old estate, Mariah Aubrey lives in seclusion. She supports herself by writing novels in secret—at a time when such writing is considered improper and unladylike. Soon the wealthy and ambitious Captain Bryant leases the estate and is intrigued by the beautiful girl in the gatehouse. But will he risk his plans—and his heart—for a woman shadowed by scandal?

Different, out of the box characters, no bad language, uplifting, not preachy. Will listen to this one again.

If you’ve listened to books by Julie Klassen before, how does this one compare?

This one is a bit slower than the others, but is a good clean story with mystery and a touch of romance.

Overall good, but slower than the others.

I listen to a great deal of audio books and would describe this one as an enjoyable light read. It started off slow but held my attention all the way through. The deeper the story line became, the more interesting it was. The narrator did a great job and her voice was easy to listen to. I would definitely recommend this book. It will leave you feeling encouraged and hopeful.

Very enjoyable book!

I really liked or I should say loved this book. I am so impressed with Julie Clawson‘s writing and the plots and subplots that she presents in her books. This one is no exception. Her stories are compelling and the narrator does a superb job of presenting many different accents and ages and does both men and women’s voices in a stellar way.

Excellent

I love how this author tells a true love story, that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and has the most happy endings.

Again, Julie has reinvented her stories. I loved this one as much as the others. Thank you again for bringing us into this world.

Such a beautiful, touching story of the the power of the God's unmerited and unrelenting grace! How His love for each and every one of us pursues us and wants to heal us! How He takes the hard, unforgivable things of our past and uses them to show us and those around us how He loves us still. How He loves our hearts, our lost souls, and brings them home to rest in the only safe place, His grace and love; and how He gives us loved ones who celebrate His love with us! He gives us His family, His church, to join us in celebration!

Healing Power of God's Unrelenting Grace

There are few fallen women in other books of this nature. In the Girl in the Gatehouse, there are several more and their stories are fables in their own right. Amy Meriwether's in particular. Mariah Aubrey's moments of being the foolish girl can make a reader a bit crazy. However, her foolishness kept the plot twists and turns hidden. This is a pg13 rated book. Excellent Characters with believable life stories.
