About this listen

The question of gender—who we are as men and women—has never been more pressing, or more misunderstood.

Weaving personal experience with expert knowledge, Dr. Abigail Favale provides an in-depth yet accessible account of the gender paradigm: a framework for understanding reality and identity that has recently risen to prominence. Favale traces the genealogy of gender to its origins in feminism and postmodern thought, describing how gender has come to eclipse sex, and how that shift is reshaping language, law, medicine, sexuality, and our own self-perceptions.

With substance, clarity, and compassion, Favale teases out the hidden assumptions of the gender paradigm and exposes its effects. Yet this book is not merely an exposé—it is also a powerful, moving articulation of a Christian understanding of reality: a holistic paradigm that proclaims the dignity of the body, the sacramental meaning of sexual difference, and the interconnectedness of all creation. The Genesis of Gender is a vital, timely resource for anyone seeking to better understand the gender paradigm—and how to live beyond it.

The pronunciation of the European (e.g., French) names in this book was great attention to detail that was pleasantly surprising. Great content!

Dr. Favale acutely describes the enigma that is modern gender theory. This work outlines in detail the history of gender theory, and how it is shaped by various streams of philosophical thought. Once this is established Dr. Favale examines the role of medicine, psychology and social psychological on this trend, and finishes by examining being and gender from an Aristotelian lens of final causality.
In a line, Dr. Favale’s work makes audible the idol of the self-as-god - and effectively smashes it with the truth of Nature and of Absolute Cause.
A must read!

This has to be one of the best books I’ve read in the last few years on the topic of gender, sexuality, and spirituality.

The book is well researched, readable, and extraordinarily well written. Highly recommend anyone interested in the topic give this book a try.

Profound and fascinating read!

An excellently articulated, intelligent, and thoughtful argument for an orthodox understanding of the sexes.
The author writes from an openly Roman Catholic perspective, while succeeding in not alienating those coming from other traditions or perspectives. While overt religiosity may be off putting at face value to some readers, or may cause push back in some areas from others of differing faith traditions, her Catholic perspective does enable her to make compelling and poignant observations on the issue which one does not always hear from other sources. Her convictions on the topic being tied to a much larger metaphysical ethos together with an obviously fiercely intelligent mind, and a sensitive narrative style combine to create a cogently grounded argument which pleads for the dignity and beauty of the human creature.

Per the narrator, she had a well tempered and pitched voice which she used to good effect by tone, cadence, and emphasis to communicate the author’s written voice excellently to an audio audience.

I greatly appreciated the analysis of a former Evangelical feminist. I will buy the book to read more closely.

This book is very helpful for those who seek to understand different points of view. I am especially to Abigail for being so honest, so candid, & so straightforward. Her book is so refreshing as well as enlightening and, on occasion, quite comical.

Excellent

This excellent read is approachable in its explanation of challenging topics regarding feminism, gender, and sexual ethics/morality. Dr. Favale's expertise and clear writing communicate very concisely about history, modern change, and practical insight in a manner that doesn't compromise truth but that is loving and gracious.

Through Christian Audio I listened to this book for free. Total score.

The author writes on transgenderism from a very human, and very Catholic point of view. God loves us. Period.

She gives hard facts and scientific proof that basically, sex changes do not bring happiness. You cannot charge sex. The body rebels. But, at the same time, every human person has dignity and although I can’t feed into transgenderism , because, let’s face it, transgenderism does not lead to happiness, I still love the person and do not wish them harm or pain.

The author is smart but still learning about Catholicism. It’s not until chapter 9 that she addresses the evil intent that makes a human being hate themself because of their body. It’s a ploy of the devil.

Beware of total acceptance of the words of Pope Francis, accompany, but show suffering individuals the way. Don’t be led astray by words.

This life is short and passing compared to eternity.
