About this listen

Contains books 1-3 of The Forgotten.

Forgotten, book 1

Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the Pilgrim, and he expects to die on the Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him. That's the way things are on a generation starship centuries from home. He's never questioned it. Never thought about it. And why bother? Access points to the ship's controls are sealed, the systems that guide her automated and out of reach. It isn't perfect, but he has all he needs to be content.

Until a malfunction forces his engineer wife to the edge of the habitable zone to inspect the damage. Until she contacts him, breathless and terrified, to tell him she found a body, and it doesn't belong to anyone on board. Until he arrives at the scene and discovers both his wife and the body are gone. The only clue? A bloody handprint beneath a hatch that hasn't opened in hundreds of years. Until now.

Forsaken, book 2

Sheriff Hayden Duke expects to die any second. He's already been attacked by demonic aliens, rogue soldiers, and even the people he thought were his friends.

They took his wife. He has to find her. He has to survive. Another second. Another breath. He can never give up. He can never rest until she's back in his arms. They'll try to stop him, but it won't be as easy as they think. A new hope is rising in an old world.

Unforgiven, book 3

Sheriff Hayden Duke has got a long way to go before he can rest. How can he when the entire world is under siege by demonic aliens and a brutal thug who calls himself King?

It's an unknown and powerful threat that may be responsible for the end of humankind. The road may be long. The odds may be bad. The stakes may be high. But you can’t keep a good Sheriff down.

Loved it, uh hated it…

This is a future western with flavors of the past. The details are inspiring and gripping. I loved the main premise of doing the right thing. So why did I hate it? Well for a number of reasons.

First, it brought out my bloodthirsty side. It was so frustrating when the hero spared the life of some monster pretending to be human only to have them come back later to kill and make mayhem.

Secondly, I don’t think that a woman refusing to kill when threatened makes them “good,” to me it just makes them stupid and weak. It also costs the lives of others who could have been saved.

Thirdly, how many good people must be sacrificed on the alter of love before the hero takes steps to protect his followers along the way to his goal. The moral: if they keep shooting at you, if they are rapists, if they kill the innocent they need killing, period.

Now I’m not disregarding the premise that the heroes where unaccustomed to deadly force or deceit, but 2 days in the real world badlands and multiple betrayals should have imparted a modicum of caution and a willingness to kill if only to protect the group. I’ll definitely continue in the Forgotten universe, but our heroes need to learn and get real. You can’t salvage the soul of people who didn’t have one to begin with. Enjoy!

I mean.....how can you not?!

Inhaled this trilogy.
How can you not root for the Sheriff?
Very excited to read the rest!
Hell's Rejects was my first M.R. Forbes series so I tend to favor Jeff Hayes for the narration however J.D. did his thing all the same (tilts hat brim)
Mr. M.R. is one of my new favorite Authors! Yay! I LOVE finding new Authors <3
Now excuse me while I go purchase the rest of his works (^_^;)

good bundle

pretty good book just enough realism with world ending fantasy. sheriff Duke is a overly optimistic protagonist but he does not waiver. I like the RC Bray performances but this reader was good enough. worth buying the bundle good ear candy

It was a interesting take on the old western

I enjoyed the interesting take on a western formula. A single minded true north hero thrown into a situation he didn't see coming at him. The spaghetti western formula and in turn old Japanese story lines still interest me. Its just a different background and character stories. I enjoyed it enough to write a review.

Good Sci-fi Series

Great story twists give this performance a lovely freshness. Characters are unique and decisions by them both unsatisfying and perfectly surprising at times. Great narration too. The series is a good story from begin to end. I recommend it highly to military sci-fi fans and dystopian fans or to anyone that like a white-hat law man story.

Overall a good read

This story was a bit confusing at the beginning. Too many characters. Too much to notice and remember. However, it turned out to be a good read and worth the time invested.

Surprisingly unique!

Despite of the slow start, the story gets engaging and hard to stop reading. The characters are believable and funny at a times.
I loved it!
