Garish Sound Effects Ruin Performance

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story itself I would only give 3 stars in any case. What would've made the performance better would be the absence or toning down of the sound effects. They were at times so loud I couldn't hear the narrator clearly. They would also increase in intensity to even louder volume which quite hurt my ears.

If you’ve listened to books by H. P. Lovecraft before, how does this one compare?

Much the same story wise. Much poorer in performance and execution.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of K. Anderson Yancy?

The narrator Yancy was fine. Once I got accustomed to his presentation I thought it fit the story well. Again, the sound effects...

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance, not because of the story though.

Any additional comments?

Did I mention the sound effects and how much I disliked them?

For the love of God, run from this book!!!

SonicMovie's contribution to audiobooks is akin to water-boarding's contribution to modern diplomacy. Forget about Britney Spears or Barney being played at deafening volumes for weeks upon end, listen to this little 'gem' once and you'll be begging to confess your darkestest secrets! Take the worst dubbed kung fu flick you've ever seen and imagine it vomiting out of your ipod headphones and turning your brain into quivering, stupified mush. Beside that the book was great!

Avoid Purchasing!

After purchasing three hundred plus books from audible this is my first unquestionable regret. Combining a great author with an unintelligible narrator is a waste of time and money!
