About this listen

From the dogged Long Island reporter who has been on his trail since 2019, the bizarre, captivating, and frankly hysterical story of America’s most outrageous grifter—former US Representative George Santos.

America is used to larger-than-life politicians, from Telfon Don to AOC and from Dark Brandon to MTG. The political arena has been injected with an unmistakable edge of celebrity flair and tabloid intrigue. Yet in 2022, a new player on the national scene outshone them all. George Anthony Devolder Santos, and his revolving door of pseudonyms, shed glaring new light on how far we’d let our politics slide as his claimed resume was shred to bits in the wake of a longshot run to office from New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

From Wall Street gigs to an amateur volleyball career, from embellished claims of Jewish heritage to a fabricated 9/11 story involving his mother’s death, Santos’s legend continued to grow as his web of lies evaporated in real time. And the only thing wilder than this charlatan embedding himself in the warm, consequence-evading arms of our nation’s capital was the Queens con artist’s refusal to bow his head in shame.

Newsday alum and PEN/Hemingway honoree Mark Chiusano tells the full (well, as full as can be given the subject) story of Santos here for the first time. From humble years spent in Brazil and glamorous nights on the west side of Manhattan, to the stunning small-time scams employed to ease his slippery climb up the American society ladder, The Fabulist tells a story you’ll have to read for yourself to believe…and even then, it’s George Santos, so who’s to say for sure.

Brilliant takedown of a sociopath who walked amongst us

Santos is a product of MAGASM. The ascent of Trump gave birth to previously silenced troglodytes, who would never have dared share there hateful rhetoric, criminal inclinations, and insane conspiracies in normal society let alone on a National and International forum. Trump's campaign and administration, (the epitome of the afformentioned evils) provided the inspiration and platform required for the Boeberts, Greenes, Millers (Mary), Gosars, Gaetzs, Loomers, Mcenanys, Millers (Steven), Lahrens, Owenses, Diamonds and Silks, Deplorable Choirs along with so many other other foul individuals and hateful sycophants to rise out of the shadows and inject their venom into the National Discourse. A brilliant and methodically researched takedown of one of the most insidious MAGAt, namely George? Anthony? Michael? Tom? (who knows what else) Santos.🙏🖐️

The Fabulist and the Nuances of Brazilian Life

The Fabulist is a fascinating book: cleverly written, often humorous, and rich in captivating details. It provides an insightful analysis of George Santos, particularly in the context of the many subtle nuances of Brazilian culture and life in Niterói. Truly outstanding. André Santana reads it beautifully.

It’s pronounced Na-SAW!

I loved the story told by this excellent piece of journalism. But how does a reader get paid to record an audiobook when he fails to learn how to pronounce local geographical names and the names of local politicians?
I had to stop listening, because I was telling NASSAU out loud every time it was mispron.

George Santos Is Two Middle Fingers Pointed At The Establishment

This book deserves 5 stars for storytelling and 1 star for objectivity. It's positively dripping with liberal bias - imagine describing George Floyd as a "father" and "sometimes security guard", as opposed to a career criminal who held his pregnant girlfriend hostage with a gun pointed to her belly. Or imagine describing the oldest newspaper in America (The New York Post) as a "conservative tabloid" -- *eye roll* -- but then go on to quote The New York Times and The Daily freaking Beast uncritically. (What a hack!)

The book would be just another forgettable crybaby liberal hit piece if my boy George Santos wasn't such a G.

We do not respect your institutions. We do not respect "OurDemocracyTM". The game is rigged, the system is illegitimate, and we are sending in the clowns!!!
