About this listen

Brianna Hai runs an occult shop that sells useless trinkets to tourists - and real magic supplies to witches and warlocks. The magical painting that hangs in Brianna's apartment is the last portal between the fae and human worlds.

A shocking magical assault on her home reveals to Brianna that her father High King Liu of the Fae is under attack. With the help of her gargoyle Pug, her friend David, and Angelo, a police detective who doesn't believe in magic, Brianna recovers what was stolen from her and becomes an unwilling potential heir to the throne.

Great Beginning to A New Series

I gave this book a chance because I love anything Marguerite Gavin reads. I love the way she brings characters to life. I listened to the book because it was an interesting story. The characters and world built by C. T. Adams is very interesting and engaging. I loved that Adams didn't fall into using sex as a plot device to move the story along or fill in a gap in the story line. This book is worth listening to and I can't wait for the next one.

I want more!

Action, smart alecks, a potential romance, a queen, and a bad ass! Tough female with a softer side to know what's important to her....while being able and willing to protect those around her....Excellent book!

Will be the next best series!

This is the first book of a new series, and as I was looking for a new series since Kim Harrison ended the Rachel Morgan series, which looks to be amazing. The story is well detailed, the beginning was a little slow; but by the middle of the book and introduction of Nick, I was totally hooked! I will definitely relisten to this book before the new one is released! If you like paranormal romance novels with fae, pixies, sprites and seers, you will enjoy this newcomer! I am not sure the description is a nice outline, but does not serve this book justice!

Highly recommended if you like Rice's Gentry books

Would you listen to The Exile again? Why?

Yes. The fae cultures and the characters are well planned out to build an interesting world/story.

What did you like best about this story?

It took me to Fairy in as interesting a read since Anne Rice wrote about her first Meredith Gentry books (without all the sex). The story goes deep enough into the fae culture and characters to interest me. I'm looking forward to the next book taking me further into the world created here and learning more about the characters. This could be another break - out series for me....cross your fingers.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not that I know. I generally go through so many stories when I hole up to enjoy my library that I only really notice who the narrator is if s/he is (1) truly horrible, (2) has an annoying tick in their narration, or (3) when I've been in a series for 3 or 4 books with a good narrator and the author (or whoever) changes narrators midstream. Evanovich did this to me and the characters were never the same. If I remember correctly Harry Potter changed into someone else with a new narrator. Generally it happens with the growing popularity of a particular series and it feels like when Bewitched brought in a new Darren. Weird.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just joy at finding a book i can truly say I enjoyed and a feeling of satisfaction and anticipation at the end of the book.

Any additional comments?

Unfortunately, my favorite character in the book was the King of the Fae. I'll be interested to see how I feel after the next book.

another great book!

I love all of C.T. Adams books. this was especially satisfying as she gracefully worked her way through explaining a whole different world! the story was tight and also satisfying! I can't wait to see what she comes up with in the next book of the series!

Horrible Book

I honestly want hours of my life back trying to listen to this book. I was trying to stick with it but it so boring. Some whiny protagonist woman and the commentator makes it worse.
