The Essential Martin Luther includes five works: (1) 95 Theses, (2) To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, (3) The Babylonian Captivity of the Church, (4) Concerning Christian Liberty, and (5) Treatise on Good Works.
The four books are Luther's most important early ones, all written in 1520, and his famous “95 Theses” in 1517 lit the match that touched off the Protestant Reformation.
The book begins with a biographical introduction about Luther. With each of the five works, the book includes an introduction that provides the historical context and a discussion of the work itself.
